I don't get the MSNBC spin on the Iowa results.

They are already hand wringing about Biden’s campaign. But I never expected Biden to do especially well in Iowa nor do I expect it in New Hampshire. He’s not a Midwesterner and there were other moderates to choose from who are, and there are several competitors from states near New Hampshire. He has also been under constant attack from Trump and his sycophants while other candidates whom Trump may perceive as weaker, have been spared. If Biden comes in well behind the leaders in SC, then I think pundits may be right to raise concerns.

Further, we know from 2016 that Sanders does well in caucuses. He should have been expected to come in first or second in Iowa, and as a Vermonter, in New Hampshire. He didn’t bring in lots of new participants to the Iowa caucuses.

I think Super Tuesday will tell the tale.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

If Iowa really means as much as the media is claiming, the process needs to change. It should only be relevant in the same way any other state with 1% of the delegates is relevant.

What I find interesting is the same media is downplaying what appears to be a likely Pete win and acting as though Sanders had some huge win. All while proclaiming doom for Biden. It's a curious dynamic.

As someone who does a lot with statistics, he does a good job at breaking the numbers down, explaining the trends in the data, etc. Sometimes we don't like what he sees in the numbers, but they appear to me to be honest assessments.

Sometimes DU primary threads cause me to do research. I get the passion for Bernie Sanders , I really do, as I follow youth trends.

However, the Iowa loss for Biden projects out to, well not much from what I’m reading. We will see. I’m hearing states like Florida will go for Joe Biden, California for Bernie Sanders. Doubt, HIGHLY doubt, the south will go to Sanders.

I have my eye on Bloomberg right now, he’s that long shot, interesting he’s picking up steam.

CA, 538 says he’s expected to win a third of the votes.

The Buttigieg people are claiming a big win because they are less than a percentage vote ahead of Sanders in the state (not even national) delegate count. But since it is over Sanders that is ok I guess.

Prior results impact the odds; the length of the race factors in, trainers and owners also factor in, the track, the temperature, the age of the runners, and given conditions of the race, it is complicated. I have been loving and betting on horses for over 30 years, and fuck yes I love a long shot, but not Mike.

The is especially problematic when doing so as a moderate in a moderate state. Additionally, he has to raise money.

When a process like this is all about momentum and timing this sort of outcome is going to raise eyebrows. He can get it back, but right now he's stalled and has to recover.
