that phase of product development that comes after design* and coding. Or it was back in the day when I was involved in software release. And that includes testing in a real end-user environment. It's amazing what end users can do with a product, things the most inventive programmer couldn't even imagine.

*I don't suppose they did a design review with the proposed customers, did they?
