Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWoman for president in 2040
First we need the oldest white guy ever, then the gay white guy, then the Asian American guy, then the Hispanic guy. Mix in a couple white Republican guys and second terms; make it 2050 or 2060. I was told when I was a kid that a woman can be president when Mondale ran with Ferraro. They lied. Parents, stop lying to your kids. When your daughter asks if a woman can be president, and youre voting for a man rather than one of the two highly qualified female candidates, please answer, not yet.

(4,079 posts)I think Klobuchar and Warren are the two MOST qualified candidates...by far. This feels way too much like the women's suffrage movement. Just wait a few years until after the war...just wait a few years until the economy is better...just wait...just wait...

(82,383 posts)It's like the woman has to win or it's wrong? You have to convince people on grounds other than we should have a woman President.
It's like if Bernie doesn't win, it must be manipulation of the DNC. No, to win you have to get the most votes.

I do not, for the life of me, understand why anyone in their right fucking mind would pick Buttigieg over Klobuchar.

(2,706 posts)But the senate trial interfered with it.
Perhaps Warren could have been second had the trial not taken up her time. Or Amy finish top 4.
But I do like that Pete has been mostly positive. My issue is his lack of experience.

(4,079 posts)Plenty of people won't vote for them just because they are women. They think women are unelectable BECAUSE of their gender.
Klobuchar and Warren easily have more intelligence, class, dignity and experience, and they each have better policy statements than their idealogical brethren. That is, of course, my opinion, but none of it has anything to do with their gender.
I truly believe that if they were men, they would make the most electable ticket the Dems could put together. And the only reason that won't happen is because they are women. It sucks!

(82,383 posts)or convince anyone based on that. It is tough to convince people they are being unfair and should change because of that. I don't know what the answer is, though. Hillary came close and maybe even did it without Russia and Comey. It will take a very charismatic woman, parallel to Obama getting over the hurdle due to having it.

(2,706 posts)Should say shed pick Amy as VP. Try to get Amys supporters on board with an all female ticket.
Warren + Amy % could win NH. That would effect Bernies chances.

(14,537 posts)just not that woman running in 2040. Who cares if she found the cure for Cancer, Ended poverty and homelessness in her home state. She once said a mean thing about the 90 year old white guy running against her, it rules her out. Oh and her haircut is awful and bad taste in shoes.

(146,329 posts)I remember. I voted for her. She was blocked in the Electoral College by some people who voted for a different woman in three states.
So, absolutely yes, a woman can be elected as President. I expect that to happen in 2024, in fact, when the woman who becomes the Vice President runs after a single-term President does not.
Hillary Clinton won. She did not take office, however. But, she got 3 million more votes than the person who is sitting in the White House this morning.
Will a woman be nominated in 2020? Perhaps not. We have too many candidates running for that nomination, I'm afraid.

It wasn't even a little close. She trounced the orange menace by over 3 million votes. We HAVE to get rid of the EC.

If it is an "old white guy", so be it.
I think Amy would win big in a general election.... but I need more people to agree with me and you.

(14,565 posts)It was a massive mistake not to nominate her. Typical shortsighted thinking. Imagine Obama sitting on the sideline waiting for 2016. You always want the more charismatic candidate in the more troubled cycle, like 2016 after holding the White House two consecutive terms. 2008 was more like a handout.
Those of us who argued for Hillary here in 2008 were put on ignore list recommendation sheets that were passed around by PM. That's how bad it got and don't let anyone tell you differently. I was sent a copy of the list. It was basically all the smart people, the ones arguing the immense benefit of becoming the first party to elect a female.
Hillary always figured to lose a close race in 2016, given the situational deficit. I didn't pay any attention until the other side was actually flirting with Donald Trump. That gave Hillary a chance, and she had it until Comey changed world history.
