Re: Turnout , the caucus process is intimidating

Note re: turnout

The caucus process is intimidating and super time-consuming. Met lots of Iowa Ds who weren’t caucusing because 1) they’re too busy, 2) they don’t know how, 3) they’ll vote for anyone vs. Trump

Dangerous to draw conclusions from Iowa, about this or anything else

primary today, I would vote for:

1. The caucus is a throwback to the days of party bosses.

2. Exactly... Those conflating caucuses with primary or general election turnout, those preaching gloom

& doom, that this somehow foreshadows what will come in the Fall-- are not only wrong, they are (however unintentionally) doing the work of our opponents.

The silver lining is this may be the death knell for caucuses in Iowa. Just as it was for Colorado after 2016.

4. There were a big chunk of Iowa voters who were still undecided so that may have been a factor.

hard-sell tactics to try to get unviable candidate supporters to join their candidate. It was refreshing to see that passion and energy, but you could see how it could be intimidating.

6. It's intimidating for people who aren't comfortable in crowds

Instead of one person, one vote, it almost becomes mob rule where you're cajoled into voting for one candidate or another in a public forum, especially if it's the second round and your first choice isn't viable. As an introvert, this would send me running for the exits.

It was time consuming and a bit exhausting so I gave up on the downticket races after Obama got it and went home. In hindsight, that may have been a disservice to our other excellent Dem candidates in local races who didn't get full support during the nominating process. It was kind of interesting to have supporters actively trying to persuade me to support their candidates. The candidates with the most persuasive supporters might benefit from caucuses.

primaries are more convenient but less interactive.

primary today, I would vote for:
