Bernie Sanders wins Keokuk, Iowa satellite caucus by 3 votes.

This shows why getting out the vote is so important. A single person can be the difference between a candidate being viable or nonviable.

A total of 9 people. I think it is more indicative of the failure of a caucus. krissey Feb 2020 #1
Relax. This is just a satellite caucus. It's meant for people who can't get to the normal caucus. HerbChestnut Feb 2020 #2

This is, to my knowledge, a new system implemented this year to expand caucus turnout.

Because if it went just popular vote Biden could finish 4th. Best hope for Biden is the people that their candidates are not viable then go to Biden.

Because of tinibg, many cannot attend. Seniors, working folks and families are under represented.

I feel this way regardless of who I support at this point. I vascilate between Buttigieg, Biden and Warren.

As to how the “satellite” caucus works. What other satellite location are they joining, and how is that established?

Unfortunately, their site is very slow right now. It's probably being bombarded since today is the caucus. But there's explanations on how the satellite system works and where the locations are on there. I think I saw there are 96(ish) locations throughout the state.

I'm a site lead in Nevada- where more than one precinct is in the same building. Last time we had 6 different precincts in 6 different classrooms.

This time Nevada (va pronounced like the a in at) has included early satellite locations for early voting.

Early voting is from 15 to 18 February, with the actual caucus on 22 February. Starts at 12 noon, unless there are people in line at noon and still registering.

During the early voting, you fill our your first and second choices. These are then recorded as they come in. There is a paper trail for backup in case there are technical problems.

There are also signed paper ballots that are submitted as backup in case there are any issues with he phone application reporting. All paper ballots will be checked against the tabulated precinct phone totals to avoid any shenanigans, and these paper ballots are the official result of the voting. The phoned-in totals are there to speed up the reporting process.

These ballots are totaled prior to caucus day, and are provided to each precinct on caucus day.

They are read aloud, and marked in the total caucus votes for the first round. If a choice is unviable, they go to the second choice for the voting, along with the regrouping. I don't remember if there is a third choice included.

If you voted early, you are not allowed to vote on caucus day. Also, you are not allowed to participate in any discussions, and are considered a "guest", like member of the press. You then must stay away from the caucus activities so as not to interfere.

I was very proud of our caucuses in my site, and the Bernie People and Clinton people helped me out gracefully and equally in doing the math and reporting. There was no acrimony, and it wouldn't have been allowed. (As opposed to what happened on the "Strip" Casino locations)

Last year, if you were at the wrong site/precinct at official closing, we allowed those from other precincts to vote where they were. This time, they are out of luck if they are at the wrong location, even if they can't make it to their proper location in time to vote.

We are still allowing on-site same day registration as a democrat. You must be a democrat to be allowed to vote.

Even tho I don't particularly like this provision (I think the voting should be Closed and only prior registered Democrats should be able to vote), it is not my position to do anything different, and I won't allow the established rules to be disregarded. Fortunately, everything went smoothly that last time, and hopefully will this time too.

Last time, republicans could register along with everyone else, then re-register as republicans to vote in their caucuses, which was a month or so later that year, with not enough time to verify the cheaters.

Hope this helps.

I HATE CAUCUSES!!! Prefer the primary.
