Bernie Sanders continues to dodge questions about releasing his tax returns, even as he pressures Trump to do the same
It's been over a month since Sen. Bernie Sanders pledged to release his tax returns and there's no updated timeline on when they'll see the light of day.

Sanders has offered vague answers on when he'll release the returns, even as he pressures President Donald Trump to do the same.

In an interview with Margaret Brennan of CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday, the Vermont senator was asked if he will be releasing his tax returns. Brennan noted that Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand — who like Sanders is running for president in 2020 — released her 2018 tax returns earlier in the week.

If his taxes are such a nothingburger, why hasn't he released them?

Surely someone who runs his social media machine can help him get them modified enough for a suitable release!

I don't know why he doesn't want to release his tax returns, but the longer he waits, the more people are going to want to see them. I suspect there's something in them that will be embarrassing to Sanders. I don't know what, of course, but I can't really think of any other reason to keep stalling.

If he thinks he can wait until after the convention, he's incorrect. Everyone else will release theirs and it will become a major issue if Sanders hasn't. If he releases them now, and there is something embarrassing in there, there will be time to deal with it.

"Yeah, we will. I mean, we have it all done and it's just a question of dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Yes, we will, absolutely," Sanders said.

that his tax returns contain something that is an existential threat to his campaign.

He would rather take the hits on not releasing them and hope that his devotees would continue to support him than be destroyed by what the tax returns reveal.
