John Nichols: AOC has bigger draw in Iowa than most candidates

Last edited Sat Feb 1, 2020, 11:39 PM - Edit history (1)

He has some interesting theories like the possibility that Yang's voters might end up going mostly to Sanders and Klobuchar's to Warren because of the way the Iowa Caucuses work:

Is that supposed to worry us? If so, you've failed miserably.

It just means what it says it means. I fully understand where you land on AOC. She's just an eyeroll for you. Duly noted. I won't have conversations with you about her.

She has a degree with honors in international relations and econ. She's a representative. She's smart as hell. She doesn't take any shit. She's a progressive.

I mean she's no old white guy, but I like her.

It's demographics is so unfleflective of our party. It's such a small sampling of voters nationally, I'm not sure it's a bit significant anymore

Since 2000. Gore, Kerry, Obama and Clinton all won there.

So maybe the demographics are very much like our party?

Sun Feb 2, 2020, 02:28 PM
Feb 2020

2004: Dean, Gephardt, Kerry, Edwards, Clark, Lieberman (6)

2008: Obama, Edwards, Clinton, Richardson, Joe Biden who got 1% (5)

This year: Sanders, Buttigieg, Biden, Warren, Klobuchar, Stayer and Yang (7)

So 1 more than in 2004 with the last 2 polling below 3% this year.

The point is that Iowa may seem like they have different demographics but when it comes to who they vote for it's generally pretty inline with the rest of the country. They picked Obama even though most of the state is white for example.
