Flores: Biden Encounter Was A Personal Space Issue, Not Sexual Harassment

Flores: Biden Encounter Was A Personal Space Issue, Not Sexual Harassment
By Nicole Lafond
April 1, 2019 7:53 am

Former Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor of Nevada Lucy Flores told MSNBC on Sunday that while she felt violated by an unexpected kiss from former Vice President Joe Biden, she considered the incident to be a personal space issue and not sexual harassment or assault.

“For the record, I don’t believe that it was a bad intention. I’m not in any way suggesting that I felt sexually assaulted or sexually harassed. I felt invaded. I felt there was a violation of my personal space,” she said. “And it’s been dismissed as if it’s just Biden being Biden. Boys will be boys. No big deal. It is a big deal.”

Flores told Politico that she’s seen plenty of pictures and videos of Biden doing to women what he had done to her, calling it “triggering.”

“When I started to see pictures of him behaving in the same way he did with me and with other women, it was very triggering,” she said. “I felt so much empathy for them. I knew what they were going through. I had been in their shoes.”

And glad she recognizes, at least, that Biden doesn't have any creepy intent.

Personal space is a cultural and personal issue, not anything that speaks to a person's values, integrity or fitness for office.

Flores apparently prefers a different candidate. This kind of nonsense has nothing to do with someone's fitness to be President. So, it shouldn't be brought forward as an issue.

Already, we're fighting among ourselves. That crap cost us the 2016 election. Let's stop cutting our own throats, shall we?

No sexual harassment? Then, it's not an issue, for goodness' sake. Leave it.

"... when I take pictures with families, I often playfully put two kids in headlocks and squeeze their heads together. It always gets a laugh. I did it once to the two young sons of Chris Murphy, a young Democratic star who represents Connecticut in the Senate and serves as a voice of conscience on both gun violence and foreign policy. Watching me squeeze his boys' heads together, Chris said, 'That's the kind of thing that would bring joy to thousands of families, and one day it ends your career.'"

I don't believe her. Period.

I think she invented the encounter based on her inaccurate interpretation of the Stephanie Carter photo, and figured if she "me too'd" it, others would pile on.

that didn't stop a whole lotta DUers from reacting to her report as if they were a bunch of rabid republicans out for blood.

This has been a disgusting display of hypocrisy. DUer Codeine was right: no one here had any problem seeing what was wrong with Bush rubbing Merkel's shoulders. But when Biden did that and lots more, people here savaged the person on the receiving end of it.

No, what Biden did was not the end of the world. It should not disqualify him. It WAS inappropriate and grossly entitled. Whether you like the guy who did it (which I do) or not. And the person who reported it was not the one in the wrong.
