My dad worked at the local school for what we now call the mentally challenged

but people used to call retarded. Growing up I met many of my fathers students (he was the principal) and like all people some were fantastic while others were well not so fantastic as people. I heard the r word often growing up. But by the time I went to middle school most kids stopped. Now I work at a regular public high school, and we have some kids that I am sure some people, like Bernie's new video person, call retarded. You know who doesn't. Not a single kid at my school, not one, does that. Kids who have been to the alternative school, nope they don't. Kids who get suspended routinely, nope not them. But Bernie's new video person, yep he does. He thinks it is OK. We deserve better.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Dressing disability up in euphemisms suggests that you think that it is a bad thing to be disabled rather than a neutral characteristic. Intellectual disability is the preferred language.

But... then again... it's JANE after all. So I guess I shouldn't be THAT surprised.
