Bernie Broke My Heart When He Embraced Rogan's Endorsement

Last edited Fri Jan 31, 2020, 03:16 PM - Edit history (1)

I’ve been a lifelong socialist and a supporter of Sanders since the 1980s. I expected better from the senator.

By Donna Minkowitz, TODAY 6:00 AM

“You can’t even discuss the fact that certain races demonstrate low IQ,” Joe Rogan lamented in 2018. On that show he was celebrating Sam Harris’s support for Charles Murray’s claims that people of color are dumber than whites.

In 2019, in response to a guest’s proposed hypothetical, “Let’s imagine that you actually believe that males and females are equal in intelligence,” Rogan responded, “LOL.” Rogan’s position was obvious: Women, he believes, aren’t as smart as men.

In 2018, he told frequent guest Gavin McInnes, founder of the violent white supremacist and misogynist gang known as the Proud Boys, that people often become gay or lesbian because of “molestation at an early age.… it seems to be a real factor.”

And Rogan, who has reveled in using the N-word, said that going to a black neighborhood made him feel like he was visiting “the Planet of the Apes.” He likes to use the word “faggot,” has announced that queer women “don’t have the lower back muscles” to give other women “a proper fuck,” and says campuses are being too aggressive in prosecuting sexual assaults. He also claims that “feminism is sexist.”

Bernie is still pretty much what the old SWP was in the '60s. When I was in college in those days I went to a few Socialist Workers Party meetings, inspired by a bit of revolutionary antiwar fervor but mostly out of curiosity. What I found was a bunch of middle-class white college boys (females were relegated to coffee duty and typing chores, and fucking if the bros thought they were hot enough) playing at being revolutionaries, spouting recycled Trotskyist jargon and not doing much else. I concluded they were silly little boys and figured my antiwar sentiments were better expressed by marching in the street and occupying my college administration offices. Since then I never could quite figure out either what the socialists wanted or how they thought they were going to get it.

but as I look back, I realize that not everything or everyone was as open minded and liberal as I thought at the time. You paint a very true picture of what I recall about some of those male revolutionaries. I sure that many of them had some lofty goals, but many were just along for the ride that often included sex and drugs.

Living in a socialist country isn’t much different than living in a bureaucracy like
America.

I think maybe residents here are much less frustrated by government than Americans are with theirs.

They like the health care, they like the schools. Everyone here has great teeth.

days didn’t need to work to go to college, cost of living so low, hawking Worker’s World newspaper. Many did evolve, but some did not.

Anti-establishment, bucking the system like it was their daddies asking them to cut their hair, and enjoying a power over women they thought their little revolutionary asses deserved. Playing a role. The serious and genuine movers grew up to be like John Kerry, in terms of dedication and responsibility; some truly sacrificed for ideals and the good of humanity, but others remained chauvinistic dabblers and dreamers.

Voting against Russian sanctions didn't help. But what started it off for me, and the moment I discovered what the REAL Burny Sanders is all about: when he called for President Obama to be primaried. Absolutely beneath contempt.

Apparently the AA and POC voters haven't forgotten about that slap in the face either. Many saw it as a betrayal and haven't forgiven him for it.
