Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThank Goodness the Iowa Caucuses Will Happen on Monday!
Perhaps, then, the media and even DU will stop paying so much attention to a primary event that will do nothing but parse out caucus results fairly evenly among four primary candidates. Even then, there is only a small number of delegates at stake in Iowa in the first place, and nobody will win enough of them to make any difference whatsoever.
Iowa, as a predictor of end results, is worthless in a field of candidates that is so large. That the result predictions are so muddled is evidence that too many candidates spoil the victory. Maybe Biden or Sanders will have two more delegates allocated to one of them than the other. Meaningless.
After Iowa comes New Hampshire, another small state with a small delegation to the convention and a population so overwhelmingly white that every other demographic is dwarfed to almost nothing. Also a state which will allocate its delegates uselessly in terms of determining who the nominee will be.
As those two "bellwether" states' primary events pass, perhaps we can begin to take notice of what will happen in just over a month from now. Yes, there are South Carolina and Nevada to watch, but nobody is really paying much attention to them, either, except to note that Joe Biden will probably win decisively in South Carolina, since it is not a lily white state.
Super Tuesday. It's coming. That's what to watch, but nobody is watching it much, because IA and NH. Two states with insignificant delegations to the convention.
Hoo Boy!
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

New Hampshire is even more ridiculous, there are only twenty four delegates being chosen.

Both of those states serve just one purpose in the primary campaign season. They help to weed out the sure losers. Following those events, we will finally be down to just four or five candidates. Thank goodness.
Then, perhaps, we can begin to look at how things are playing out in the early lead-up to the convention. Super Tuesday will have great significance this year, since so many delegates are at stake. On March 3, the field will be narrowed to just three who have enough delegates to make a difference:
Biden
Sanders
Bloomberg
"Bloomberg? WTF? Never heard of him. How did he do in Iowa and New Hampshire? What? He didn't run in those states? WTAF?"

(10,137 posts)Minnesota started early voting last week, IIRC. And California starts on Monday. But tiny, anomalous Iowa and New Hampshire still get all the press because the collective MSM apparently haven't noticed that how we vote has changed over the past 20 years.

(146,317 posts)But, I like going to a polling place, seeing my neighbors, and marking my ballot in the little booth. Then, I get to feed that paper ballot into the optical reader and can see that it was accepted and counted. I will even find out how many people voted before me that day, and i get a nice "I Voted" sticker to put on my shirt.
Then, I can watch the election returns on TV that very same day. It's a great experience I've enjoyed since 1968, when I first voted at my local precinct. My first vote happened in 1966, but I was in the USAF and had to vote by absentee ballot. Ever since, I've gone to my designated polling place and have had the experience of voting on election day.
