Democratic Primaries

Former Vice President Joe Biden took a direct swipe at Bernie Sanders on Thursday, noting that the senator from Vermont, one of his top competitors in Iowa's caucuses just days away, is not a Democrat.
Biden told reporters that the contrast between Sanders and him is "self-evident," and when asked to expand, said simply, "I'm a Democrat."
Pressed on whether he believes that means Sanders is not, he said, "Well, he says he's not. He's not registered as a Democrat."
Sanders, a Vermont independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats, signed a Democratic Party pledge last year affirming that he would run for president as a Democrat and would serve as one if elected.
Biden continued Thursday that another difference between the two is that Sanders has not acknowledged how much his health care plan will cost, whereas Biden said he had.
"Everything I've suggested to you, that I want to do, I've figured how to pay for it. He's acknowledged he doesn't even know what 'Medicare for All' is going to cost, and how he's going to do it. How do you get something done that way?" Biden said at an impromptu Dairy Queen stop in Pella, Iowa.

(7,403 posts)The enemy is Trump. Why not go after Trump and the blind loyalty Republicans are showing for Trumps lawless actions. In its place we have bickering. I don't get it.

(42,862 posts)Biden does not hate the Democratic party. Biden does not call Democrats "intellectually bankrupt". Biden does not think that the Democratic party is "ideologically bankrupt". Biden does not believe that Democrats are "feeble" and "corrupt".
Biden has never proclaimed that the Democratic party is an "absolute failure". You'll never hear Biden (nor his supporters_ characterize the Democratic party as being "the party of the one-percent". Futhermore, neither Biden nor his supporters accuse the Democratic party of being "the party of the elite."
Joe Biden does not denigrate the Democratic party with accusations of being "do-nothings". The Biden campaign believes that racism is real and that economic considerations won't make racism go away. Neither Biden or his surrogates smear the Democratic party by saying that "it focuses 'too-much' on Diversity".
All I'm trying to say is that sure, there is tension arguing and bickering among ourselves and pointing out the obvious flaws in other candidates while participating in an anonymous discussion forum and on Twitter, etc... that's par for the course and to be expected.
But then... there are the OUTRIGHT LIES and other things that certain candidates, campaigns, surrogates and other ndividuals do and say publicly that denigrate and smear and divide and create distrust and suspicion and resentment... and which discourages voters from supporting the Democratic party.
In case you missed it... allow me to repeat: those things DISCOURAGE VOTERS FROM SUPPORTING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AT ALL. It demonizes the Democratic party and portrays the party as being "no different" or "the same as" the GOP.
THOSE ARE DANGEROUS FUCKING LIES, MY FRIEND!
Here's the bottom line: Lies and smears about Democrats and the Democratic party create negativity. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections. What good purpose does that serve? Why would any forward-thinking individual purposely do and say things that harm the Democratic party and which benefit the GOP?

(20,709 posts)This very OP is about Biden attacking another Democratic candidate right now in 2020, and you seem to think that's a good thing. Warren was a Republican 30 years ago. Bloomberg was a Republican 15 years ago. Do you hold the stuff they said back when they were Republicans against them? Like, you have no problem with Bloomberg endorsing W for president in 2004, but somehow you think Bernie criticizing both parties in the 70s or 80s is a disaster for the 2020 election?
That makes no sense.
It's certainly not a consistent "don't attack Democrats" position.

Please stop attacking other candidates.
We dont need cartoons of Mickey Mouse beating up other candidates in the primaries, we need your ideas WHY we should elect your candidate.

(19,201 posts)Sanders would be a footnote in history without the aegis of the Democratic Party. Democrats allowed Sanders to run as a Democrat because they didn't want him running as a third party candidate, always sucking support away from actual Democrats. And what sort of repayment does Sanders give Democrats for the protection and elevation of his candidacy? The prospect of burning the Democratic Party, and the entire country, down to the ground around him if he and his cult don't get what they want. Bernie Sanders is the far left wing version of Donald Trump. He'll destroy the Democratic Party, just like Trump did the GOP, to get what he wants.
I honestly expect this post to be removed, but c'est la vie. Sometimes honesty is too brutal for some to cope with.

(7,403 posts)And the Affordable Care Act passed with zero Republican votes. There is no working across the aisle. Hasn't been for a generation.
I am vote blue no matter who in this election - a sentiment I would normally abhor. Why are Democrats bickering rather than going after Trump. There is plenty, besides impeachment, to go after him. The GDP numbers for 2019 just came out at 2.3%, which is pretty weak by any measure. The deficit is expected to top $1 trillion this year. My Social Security check went up just over 1% for 2020, thanks to a Trump change to use the unrealistic chained indexing of inflation. Wages are again stagnating. So why is Joe talking about something Bernie said decades ago? It makes no sense.
