Biden’s opposition to busing at the time earned him attention for being a “young liberal against busing,” according to the headline of an Oct. 12, 1975, Philadelphia Inquirer article that historian and author Rick Perlstein posted on his Twitter page Thursday. In the article, Biden made favorable comments about the populism of yet another segregationist, Alabama’s George Wallace, whom Biden has compared to President Donald Trump in recent months on the campaign trail.

“I think I’ve made it possible for liberals to come out of the closet. ... If it isn’t yet a respectable liberal position, it is no longer a racist one,” Biden said, according to the article. “I think the Democratic Party could stand a liberal George Wallace … someone who’s not afraid to stand up and offend people, someone who wouldn’t pander, but would say what the American people know in their gut is right.”

37. All of the candidates have said stupid stuff. But Biden is the only candidate Obama sent eight

times to Iraq to handle post-war negotiations, entrusted with handgun control, reviving the VAWA,
helping sell ACA to mayors and governors across the nation, getting those vote squeezed out from
Repugs for the recovery act, and with advising him on foreign policy and relations. Also the only
candidate with world-stage stature.

Guess makes sense and talks pretty smart when a heartbeat away from being the president of the
United States.

when it says: "Biden made favorable comments about the populism of yet another segregationist, Alabama’s George Wallace."

That is a pure invention on the part of the Politico authors as anyone who read the original story (from the Philadelphia Inquirer) will see. While the quotes are accurate, the "framing" is not.

Biden did not praise "the populism" of George Wallace. Total falsehood.
