Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI'm always interested in hearing why someone supports a particular candidate.
Each of us have strong opinions and issues that we care about. We support candidates for different reasons. Everyone here should be treated with respect even if you dislike their candidate or disagree with their reasons for supporting that person.
One thing that unites all of us is that a democrat must defeat trump in the next election. We need to work together to flip as many races blue as possible in the house, senate, state, etc. No matter which democrat wins, they are much better than Trump.
I think that things are going to get heated as the primary voting begins in a couple of weeks. We may differ in our favorite candidate but we are all on the same team.

Unfortunately some seem to revel in trying to goad other candidates' supporters.

(43,049 posts)so we should be damn sure we get the best we can get.
I don't give a damn about plans. Congress writes the laws, and there's only so much a president can do to move the process along. LBJ was a master at it, and we want someone with at least some of his skills. Joe, Amy and Liz seem to have an edge there. Especially Amy, who has spent her years arranging compromises.
I do give a big damn about the candidate's attitude toward the job. All of our candidates seem to put the job above their own egos, but I still have a few doubts about one or two. A president can't work with no ego, but it has to be under control.
Legislative and government goals-- here's here it gets good. Priorities? We need economic growth, but at the expense of the planet? The workers? How can I expect them to balance the demands from all sides?
And, ummm... President is a job unlike any other. We really don't need amateurs getting their OJT in this job.
I'll be very comfortable with any one of those three running. The others may worry me just a little.

(17,600 posts)I like Joe's experience, empathy, and his overall favorability in key areas of the country.
I like Warren's smarts and wonkiness.
I like Klobuchar's "get it done" attitude and understanding of the need for process and collaboration. (this is my perception of her, anyway - I haven't studied her deeply because I don't see her as a front-runner).
I like Mayor Pete's obvious intelligence, study of the issues, and his ability to clearly explain complex issues.
I like Bloomberg's willingness to put his vast sums of $$$$ behind defeating the Trump evil, regardless of who is the nominee.
I love Steyer's emphasis on climate change and fixing the broken infrastructure of our democracy.
I don't know much about Bennet, Delaney, or Patrick. I'll check them out if one starts to move up.
The ones not mentioned, I hope do not get the nomination, for different reasons. Either way, I will support the Dem nominee.
