WATCH: Ex-Obama Campaign Manager Says No Question Bernie Sanders is 'The Worst Candidate'

https://www.mediaite.com/news/watch-ex-obama-campaign-manager-says-no-question-bernie-sanders-is-the-worst-candidate/

Former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said that Independent Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is “the worst candidate” Democrats could select to run against President Donald Trump.

Senator Sanders’ recent surge in some polls appears to be alarming some Democrats like Messina, who appeared on Thursday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s Morning Joe to discuss a recent survey of young voters that shows Sanders with huge leads over his Democratic competitors and Trump.

Messina pointed out that young people are historically less likely to vote, but conceded that if millennial voters turn out in large numbers, “it will change the electoral math.”

But he argued that Sanders’ emphasis on programs like free college tuition “it’s a message I think is gonna get him killed” in the general election.

“I think he’s the worst candidate in a general election for exactly that reason,” Messina said.

“You think Bernie is the worst candidate?” co-host Willie Geist asked.

“I don’t think there’s a question about it,” Messina said, adding “I think it is clear to me, with these swing voters I care about, the Trump — Obama voters in midwestern states, Bernie Sanders is not the candidate we need to beat Donald Trump in November.”

I'm not sure if having both on the ticket is a good idea. Could a younger candidate or perhaps a person of color be a better choice? I think so myself. And our ticket might benefit from a running mate who comes from a swing state if it turns out that the election will be close. We will almost certainly carry Vermont and Massachusetts anyway. Perhaps a candidate from a swing state could help put our ticket over the top.

3. The moral to this story is we need to engage in every effort to get young people to vote.

It's a real shame that younger people have voted in lesser numbers in the past. We need to do everything legal that we can to change that. Then if Bernie is the nominee his chances of beating Trump will be greatly improved.

5. Should be pretty obvious. Free college is a nice idea but let's face it, it won't...

get but a sliver of support because Sanders himself hasn't said how to pay for it.

It's all a part of the socialist spectre Sanders represents. It just won't sell to the majority of voters and if we want to beat trump, we better face that fact.

A Sanders nomination would be McGovern 2.0. We'd be presenting a second
term to trump on a platter.

6. We already knew the establishment hated Sanders but thank you anyway

We already knew the establishment hates Sanders. That when you see a pundit trash Sanders, it is 9 out of 10 times a surrogate or former campaign staffer for People like Clinton or Obama. That the way Warren handled her attack on Sanders probably came from advisors formally part of Hillary Clintons' campaign. When reports came out that Obama privately said he would step in if sanders began to pull ahead, we had hoped they were false but knew it wasn't implausible.

We knew this already.

But thanks. I just don't' think you understand how little this actually means. Being hated by the establishment is part of Sanders appeal.

And yes getting young people to vote has been an uphill battle. But given how linear time works, I am curious how Democrats expect to win elections unless we make that happen.

Oh and here's a video of Obama talking about Bernie
