Senator Klobuchar has high degree of respect from the opposition party.
Whereas I am sure you will agree repuglicans had intense dislike of president Obama,
and that would transfer to VP Biden to some degree. Klobuchar has few such negatives.

Or at least have the most united tone. Warren would do some of that on tone at least. But Klobuchar has always seen the Washington Media and Academic social circuit as part of the job.

I like all candidates running, but in my opinion the big banks and Wall Street and the 0.01% Billionaires have too much power, middle class is getting squeezed, and Warren would be most effective in dealing with that.

Jan 2020

Right now, that seems to be a misleading question.

How would any of those candidates have a positive impact on the GOP/Trump base right now? The country is divided along those lines pretty much from what I have seen.

If you are talking about a candidate who would unite and strengthen those who strongly support democracy, then that would be a different matter.

Depending on how left, progressive and democratic the candidate it is, those all would tend to deepen the rift we now have.

The question obviously is who can beat Trump most assuredly? I really don't like have to make it all and only about that, especially when there are so many real and critical problems that our candidate has to face after fixing the current mess we have, but that is where we stand and, even if it detracts from moving forward, its vital in order to preserve our UNION for all.

Thu Jan 23, 2020, 12:24 AM
Jan 2020

...the sole reason there was even an illusion of "unity" after 9/11 was because a Republican was in the White House. The Democratic party, naturally, wasn't going to criticize or stab the country in the back. Had Gore been in, as he should have been, the GOP would have stabbed *him* in the back 24/7. Limbaugh and Hannity and the rest would have run amok. It would have been Benghazi on steroids, with endless investigations and the good of the country would have gone to hell. And that was a generation ago now. The GOP has gotten worse. And the Dems have learned, to their cost, this hard fact. If a 9/11 happened under Trump or Pence, no one in the Dem's base would believe any "official" story for a second. The establishment Dems in Congress would try to sound "united"--but with Trump, Fox, and the yahoos in congress blaming them--the Dems--for any disaster (and you *know* that will happen), it would degenerate into farce. America will not be "united", in any real way, in our lifetimes.

Although I have a choice, that is a most difficult question. Now certain candidates are clearly more divisive than others. The most divisive person is Trump. (obviously) The rest will be up to the voters. If we look at past history, there are some who are more divisive than others. Not my place to start that one.
...Yes, I think Biden is less divisive, but others candidates may be equal to Joe. Mr. Obama would be the savior in this case, maybe the Mrs. could do it??

One would never expect a result like that if you got most of your political info from DU, considering the vitriol tossed at Sanders here, and a post at https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287420906 where 76% of respondents had an unfavorable view of him.

The point remains that DU, as usual, is in no way representative of the public at large. As the poll says, even after this recent drop, 73% of likely Dem primary voters view him favorably. Still in first place in favorability, ahead of Biden's 72%, which is followed by Warren's 64%. The fact is, many view him favorably even though they intend to vote for Biden. (Which is not at all contradictory because one can view multiple candidates favorably, but you can only vote for one, and viewing them favorably is only one of numerous criteria a person will use to determine their vote.)
