How bad is the Senate Trial for the Sanders and Warren campaigns?

They are going to be stuck in the Senate now, 6 days a week, for the foreseeable future. It’s a real possibility that if many witnesses are allowed that this trial could last 8+ weeks, through Super Tuesday and possibly longer.

Tin foil hat thought***** What if Collins, Murkowski, and Romney are going to vote for as many witnesses as possible in order to assist Biden getting the nomination so he can go on to crush Trump in the general election. They can play both sides by supporting prosecution and defense witness requests and that pool could be virtually limitless **** Tin foil hat off

1. All of the senators will have their surrogates in Iowa and elsewhere,

and no doubt they'll be doing videos and tv appearances when they can. As to the rest of it, your tinfoil hat is on way too tight.

Of course they’ll have their surrogates but they don’t draw anywhere near the crowds to rallies and media attention like having the candidate headlining does. I think at a minimum the trial is going to cost Sanders and Warren their shots they had at prevailing in Iowa.

They will get to make statements on breaks or at night after the hearings which will put them in the spotlight. That's especially true if some new information comes out that is embarrassing to Trump.

7. I'm not sure it hurts Klobuchar or Sanders or Warren in Iowa
Sun Jan 19, 2020, 10:08 PM
Jan 2020

At all.
If it drags on it could be a real problem.
Immediately it probably helps because their surrogates will get a bigger boost of importance and when the do show it will be much bigger news. That may actually play to Klobuchar's advantage as she can bus in the neighbors and having the Governor or LT Governor from next door show up...

After Iowa depending on how it goes it is less clear. f for example if Klobuchar surprises and will be big news and as a former prosecutor available to the national press and a big news story all her own she could dominate free media. At least for a time.

So with a little creativity they can still be heard.

And if the state is close, like nh or sc, they can do midnight rallies and be back to catch a few z's during the hearings.

They may not be that hindered.
