The editorial board for the Quad-City Times, a regional daily newspaper in Iowa, on Sunday endorsed Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota for the Democratic presidential nomination.
The endorsement comes about two weeks before the all-important Iowa caucuses, which have historically proven to be a strong predictor of who will receive a partys nomination.
The Times endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016. He ultimately lost his bid to Hillary Clinton.
This year, the newspaper chose Klobuchar, a proud Midwestern moderate, over Sanders, calling her a progressive realist and a good strategist. The editorial board praised Klobuchars political agenda, including her proposed policies on health care, climate change and infrastructure.

(1,086 posts)Klobuchar convinced us she is the one who is most likely to be successful.
A Minnesotan and former prosecutor, Klobuchar is a pragmatist. But she also struck us as a good strategist. She knows well the members of the Senate, where so many good ideas have been stymied. She convinced us she knows the levers to pull, the incentives to offer, and where to turn to get the votes needed for success.
We believe she can actually cut through the obstacles and move forward; that her Midwestern grit is a reason for hope.
Campaigning on I'm far and away the best player of the game, just doesn't ever work.

(7,135 posts)She hasn't gotten the attention or traction she deserves despite solid performances at the last several debates. I can't understand why. Maybe the media would rather focus on manufactured rivalries (Warren v Sanders) or the new kid on the block (Mayor Pete). I hope she does well in Iowa and starts to build momentum. Personally I prefer Warren but I'd be happy to vote for Klobuchar. If Biden is our nominee, he should consider picking Klobuchar for VP. She'd do a great job for the ticket in the Midwest especially.
