(8,206 posts)Those of us who acknowledge the temperature of Earth has indeed increased a degree or so in the past century, who believe humans contribute to that increase perhaps significantly and, if so, mostly these days by the Chinese and the Indians who show no intent to stop emitting carbons as they have billions of mouths to feed are all for mitigation and adaptation. Many of us strongly support nuclear power as the key to replacing carbon emissions. See on this point the new book by Daniel Poneman, President Barack Obamas deputy energy secretary, Double Jeopardy: Combating Nuclear Terror and Climate Change. If you are serious about slowing climate change, you have to be for nuclear power, Poneman concludes. (Similarly, nuclear power production need not result in weapons proliferation, but thats another subject.) Ponemans a true believer that carbon emissions must be curtailed, but his program is detailed, incremental and balanced. Thats not Bernie.
But Poneman isnt one of the Democratic primary voters lying awake at night imagining that the 2004 film The Day After Tomorrow understated whats ahead. Sanders doesnt need Ponemans vote. Sanders doesnt care about the approval of policy wonks. Sanders needs the climate-change vote. Sanders needs the true believers.

(7,006 posts)Disinformation Campaign. Now the open question is if Bernie Sanders and his team are taking an ACTIVE in the DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN. Unless they come out immediately and disown this "endorsement" one would have to believe YES in the light of what happened to Elizabeth Warren, this highly QUESTIONABLE "Endorsement" and now this right here:
Biden rips Sanders campaign for Social Security attacks
Theres a little doctored video going around put out by one of Bernies people, Biden told supporters Saturday in Indianola, Iowa, referring to a 2018 speech in which Biden discussed then-House Speaker Paul Ryan saying rising deficit demanded action on the popular entitlement programs.
Im looking for his campaign to come forward and disown it, Biden continued, pointing to his 2020 campaign proposals designed to shore up Social Security. But they havent done it yet.Indianola, Iowa Joe Biden has called for Bernie Sanders presidential campaign to disown what he calls doctored video that some Sanders supporters say shows the former vice president endorsing Republican calls to cut Social Security and Medicare.

The video in question, circulated on Twitter by a top Sanders adviser, does not appear to be altered. But the short clip omits Bidens larger argument over how Ryan handled the 2017 tax cuts and subsequent budget debates. A separate Sanders adviser included a transcript of Bidens remarks in the video clip in a separate campaign newsletter. He added other, more extended video, of Biden as a U.S. senator in 1995 and presidential candidate in 2007 explaining his support for a more austere federal budget, including putting Social Security and Medicare on the table.

(2,343 posts)At my family Christmas gathering, there was conversation at the table among my very conservative family over which Dem to vote for in the Arkansas primary. Sanders was the consensus.
My favorite sweet aunt leaned over to me at one point and told me she would vote for whoever I told her to. She knows Im a Democrat. Even though shes Republican, you couldnt meet a kinder woman.

(23,734 posts)Admits he's voting for Trump. Wants a "clear choice between an authentic, traditional socialist and all the people who just pretend to be"
In other words he wants the candidate ( traditional socialist) he thinks most of the voting moderate and center right voters would either vote against, or not vote. Using Bernie as a ruse.

(146,325 posts)for the candidate Trump most wants to run against.
Many Republicans will be doing the same thing in open primary states. Do Sanders supporters welcome these votes from conservative Republicans? Is winning important enough to allow Republicans to determine the outcome?
Important questions everyone should ask themselves, I think.

(146,325 posts)Really? This is ratfucking taken to the next level by Republicans, but will Sanders supporters celebrate it?
Will Sanders welcome Hewitt's support? Will he accept Hewitt's endorsement? Trumps?
Time to say NO to Republicans.

(4,533 posts)Maybe there is something in Predictit I dont understand. But they have the odds of Sanders winning the presidency now at 22%, and the odds of him being the nominee as 31%. Doesnt that imply he has a 71% chance of winning if he is the nominee, 22 divided by 31? For Biden they have him as also 22% to become president but 40% likely to be the nominee. So his odds of winning if he is the nominee is only 55%, 22 divided by 40.

BTW, how is Biden doing among independents? You know, those voters that Democrats need in order to win?
