Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSo thankful Joe Biden is running this time... his calm presence is much needed
I was wondering when the shoe would drop with all the emails getting opened up and the redaction's printed out.. the walls are closing in on Trump..He has stripped the government of people and competent experts to guide us, and our reactions to what is happening is being steered by a real estate hack who lies so much he does not even realize he is lying. His reality changes from second to second. And the people around him run from one side of the room to the other depending on his reactions. Caligula comes to mind.
This is the beginning of a challenge for other candidates in how they will be able to handle the mess Trump will leave us.

(10,828 posts)The most frightening thing about this political hit is that the decisions are being made by a spiteful ignoramus. Joe Biden is the antidote to that, the only one of our candidates with substantial foreign policy experience and geopolitical knowledge. We're now going to experience how important that sort of background (or lack there of) is in time of international crisis.
November can't come soon enough!

(8,144 posts)they have shown little interest in it, making instead domestic economic policy and/or political
ideology front and center in their campaigns.
Climate change is an existential crisis as is the possibility of a first nuclear war, with the two intertwined. A nuclear war will result in instant and catastrophic climate change.
Although recent events have moved foreign relations and policy issues to the forefront of our political consciousness, this area should always be on the front burner.
Heres what world leader say about Bidens superior qualifications and readiness to lead on the world stage:
Snip-
When Joe Biden attended the annual Munich Security Conference last month, the wonky foreign policy confab promised an escape from the nonstop speculation back home about the former vice presidents political plans.
Instead, Bidens 2020 intentions were the talk of the conference.

These nudges from abroad are a reminder of the heavyweight foreign policy credentials Biden would bring to a Democratic field in which they are currently in short supply. None of Bidens prospective rivals have the global experience or relationships with foreign leaders that Biden enjoys. But neither do they carry the baggage that comes with decades of involvement in controversial U.S. foreign policy decisions.
A former Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, Biden has specialized in foreign policy for decades a key reason why Barack Obama, who had modest credentials of his own in that realm as a freshman senator, tapped Biden to be his 2008 running mate. As vice president, Biden was Obamas ever-present adviser on world affairs and played a leading role in their adminstration's Iraq and Ukraine policies.
Even some prominent conservatives concede that Biden would bring to the campaign a formidable depth of knowledge of global events, especially compared to his would-be Democratic rivals.
If you look at this field, Biden is a giant in terms of his actual foreign policy experience. They have nowhere near the hands-on experience that hes had, said Ken Weinstein, president of the conservative Hudson Institute. He spent decades talking to world leaders and in that sense, hes got far deeper contacts.
