Sanders Launches Harsh Attack On Biden That Proves The Former VP Is The Most Electable Democrat 😎

Even though recent data shows former Vice President Joe Biden is the most electable Democratic candidate – both in national and swing state polling – Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders called him “ill-suited to defeat Trump” in November.

In a new interview with The Washington Post published Thursday, Sanders slammed the former VP’s long record in government and accused him of being too close to the establishment.

“It’s just a lot of baggage that Joe takes into a campaign, which isn’t going to create energy and excitement,” Sanders said. “He brings into this campaign a record which is so weak that it just cannot create the kind of excitement and energy that is going to be needed to defeat Donald Trump.”

The independent lawmaker’s comments are his sharpest attacks on Biden to date, but they show that Sanders recognizes that his biggest weakness – electability – is the former VP’s greatest strength.

Biden is the only candidate who reaches the magic 270 electoral votes needed to win

The only problem with Sanders’ assessment of Biden’s chances against Trump is that a mountain of national and statewide polling data contradicts it.

In fact, based on the current RealClearPolitics average of state-by-state polling, Biden is the only candidate among the Democratic frontrunners – including Sanders – who is leading Trump in enough states to win the Electoral College.

As of Dec. 31, Biden stands at 322 electoral votes compared to Trump’s 166, with 50 electoral votes falling into the toss-up category.

Sanders, on the other hand, leads in states totaling just 265 electoral votes to Trump’s 257 electoral votes. Only North Carolina’s 15 electoral votes fall into the toss-up category.

The same is true of Elizabeth Warren, who currently leads Trump in states that total just 251 electoral votes compared to Trump’s 257 electoral votes with 30 electoral votes too close to call.

In other words, Sanders and Warren may tout enthusiasm and crowd sizes, but polling shows that only Biden would comfortably win the Electoral College in November.

2020 Electoral map based on RCP average Polls:

Biden 322
Trump 166
Tossups 50

Sanders 265
Trump 257
Tossups 16

Trump 257
Warren 251
Tossups 30

Biden’s electability case was further bolstered this week with a new Florida poll showing that he’s the only Democratic candidate in the field who leads Trump in a hypothetical matchup.

Ultimately, the 2020 election is going to be closely contested no matter who the Democratic nominee is.

But Sanders’ argument over electability will likely fall flat if polling continues to show – as it has during much of this election cycle – that Biden is the strongest candidate to take on Trump in November.

I said before Joe committed that he comes with a lot of baggage. I liked the thread that accused Bernie of being Russia's favorite, I agree. Russia wants Bernie elected because he would overturn the corporate control of our country, something maybe our country isn't ready for. Maybe we all, Democrats and Republicans alike are afraid of change. Maybe we all like being controlled by corporate greed?
Elizabeth and Bernie scare corporate America because either one would at least try to level the playing field.

Isn't Biden the opponent Trump fears the most. Why? Because he knows Biden can beat him? Beat him in Wisconsin, Michigan Ohio, Pennsylvania?

It seems obvious to me that Trump feels Biden is the one he is going to face in 2020. It also appears that he wants and needs dirt to repel Biden's challenge. Am I missing something?

Does he have the necessary dirt to repel other challengers? Or he so convinced that Biden could actually be the one the will crush his a$$ that he really needs dirt to stand a chance against Biden? He needs it so bad that he is willing to manufacture the dirt. He wants a birther equivalent for Biden to attack Biden day after day.

It's leading me to think I need to keep a close eye on Biden.

And now maybe Sanders is seeing the same light.

primary today, I would vote for:

Disagree with specific policy ideas, fine. But what Sanders did was make statements that one can not walk back! If Biden wins, GOP will use Sanders' statements against him.

Fri Jan 3, 2020, 09:37 AM

He apparently sees that the long term outlook on his campaign does not look good, so he apparently thinks that attacking Biden will boost his campaign. His assertion that Biden is not electable is largely contradicted by nine months of polling. What is ironic is that whenever Biden does well in a poll, the Sanders campaign acts like it means nothing, yet when Sanders does well in a poll, they act like it means everything. Here are two things to keep in mind:

1. If the polls mean something, then the odds are that Biden is the most likely candidate to beat Trump, and the assertion from Sanders that Biden is not the most likely to beat Trump is false.

2. If the polls don't mean anything, then why does Bernie Sanders feel the need to go negative on Biden? The Sanders campaign, by its own admission, got the largest haul of any campaign this quarter. If the polls mean nothing, then Bernie Sanders should be doing great and should have no need to go negative.

Which voters does Bernie Sanders think his going negative on Biden? None of us who like Biden are going to come running to Sanders after he attacks Biden. As we saw with Kamala Harris, attacking Biden can, at best, only bring a temporary bump, and only near the beginning of the race, when some Biden leaners were not set. The fair-weather friend Biden supporters all left when Harris attacked Biden last summer. Since then, Biden's support has been pretty consistent, no matter what people throw at him.

That Bernie Sanders chose now to go negative shows nothing but the desperation of a campaign that will most likely fail and is looking for anything to shake up the numbers and move the needle in some way. Unfortunately for Bernie Sanders, this is just not his year. We just have to wonder how long it will be until he figures that out.

now I do believe it true with Biden beating Trump but most Americans do not know EW & Pete that well. Even Bernie to a certain point but polling shows he beats Trump so does it matter how close it is?

If you want a left leaning agenda and series change for this country and Bernie still beats Trump then why would you vote for Biden? I rather have EW or Bernie win a close election and have them as President than a more moderate candidate win in a blow out.

With all that said Pete would beat Trump as easy as Biden if he won the nomination and people got to know him. If America saw someone that smart and reasonable it would be pretty easy election also.

I do not come down the road that this election will even be close. I could even make the point that polling could hurt Biden in a general election. Because there is no enthusiasm for Biden. People will see him beating Trump and could stay home because he doesnt generate enthusiasm. Like Hillary people didnt turnout as strong.

Someone like Bernie, EW, Pete there is excitement. People will knock on doors, make calls ...etc

Either way I think pretty much any of these candidates will win with EW maybe having the closest election.

35. Sanders Launches Harsh Attack On Biden That Proves The Former VP Is The Most Electable Democrat

The independent lawmaker’s comments are his sharpest attacks on Biden to date, but they show that Sanders recognizes that his biggest weakness – electability – is the former VP’s greatest strength.
