(2,748 posts)Ive never known a Democrat who supported her. Anybody else know of someone who supports her who was known to be a Democrat prior to her candidacy?
I heard that she reported something like $3.4 million in donations this quarter. Would be nice if someone looked into who her contributors are.

(16,829 posts)It made me really curious about whether the supporter was Democratic or Republican... if I get the nerve maybe I will canvas them.
My sense is that most people who don't follow politics have never heard of Gabbard though.

(2,657 posts)Independents, overall, tend to be more conservative than Democrats, but less conservative than Republicans. So, let's say that you are an independent who sometimes leans Republican. However, you don't like Trump. In addition, you think that many Democrats are just too liberal for you. Along comes Tulsi--who sounds like a Republican--but is actually a Democrat--and is not Donald Trump. "Voila!", you think, "I have my perfect candidate". "She sounds like a Republican, but she's not Donald Trump!".
Most hardcore Democrats and Republicans probably won't vote for Tulsi. That leaves the roughly 1/3 of the country that are Independents. Remember Ross Perot? Yeah, many Independents loved him. Many Independents seem to like people who have their feet in both the Democratic and Republican camps. Now you know where Tulsi's base probably is.

(58,785 posts)and 31% of Americans self identify Democrat.
Gabbard's beautiful, talented on the podium, and some seem to have liked what they saw and picked up on an agenda or background item that pleased superficially and at least initially didn't look farther or require more.
We're burdened with, of course, the usual "low self esteem"/self-hating types who are attracted to those who badmouth whatever they identify with. Self-revilers are to the left the way revilers of others are to the right.
And of course we do have a genuine minority of conservatives who've never migrated to the Republican Party but always vote not-Democrat for president. And a few are malicious destroyers always looking for weapons.
Mercifully, they're few, but Tulsi seems to fit these templates, lacking someone preferable. (I believe most prefer male pols, which her extremely poor showing compared to her competition suggests may be the case.)
