(42,641 posts)with not enough contested delegates, I would suggest that the remaining candidates accept that as a mandate from the voters. And that would be the time to declare public support for the nominee.

(32,640 posts)But nice strawman there, attempting to misrepresent me, to make me sound extreme and ridiculous.
If you had reasonable, calm response in defense of Sanders's statement, you wouldn't need to resort to that kind of defensive fallacy.
Something to think about.

(32,640 posts)you didn't have any real defense of that position once I pointed out what the actual implications were. Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't defend strawmen others set up to attack.
And no, I didn't take that other bait either...
If you need to misrepresent the other person in order to make your point, perhaps your point needs to be reexamined.

(7,867 posts)who now completely regrets ever supporting him, my message to current Sanders supporters is this: please reconsider your support for this man. He is not good for the party and he is not good for beating Trump. He has become a disruptive force and we are seeing on a national stage why he has accomplished so little in his career and why he is actually a deterrent to many of the policies he claims to champion. He is a progressive that makes no progress and he is now threatening to do in 2020 what he did in 2016. He learns nothing. The only way we can keep him and his divisive group of campaign staff and supporters from doing the same thing this time around is to beat him so soundly in the primary that he is basically marginalized and ignored during the general.

(58,785 posts)But he can't use it to buy votes, and that's critical.
Wherever Sanders's brand of populism sells to less than 15% of a state's voters (and the RW is the big market for that), he will lose every elector to the candidates who do. Of course, since Trump has no primary competition, many trumpsters and other conservatives will once again cross-vote for Sanders as a spoiler in open primary states.
BUT, if he doesn't get 300 delegates to the convention, he can't be nominated and repeat 2016. He'll spend the convention as one of the ex-candidate superdelegate observers. His angry and disappointed "lock her up" types will be free to demonstrate outside.
Something to shoot for.
