Meghan McCain Defends Biden Amid Criticism of Anita Hill Remarks: Dems Cannibalizing Each Other Helps Trump

by Josh Feldman | Mar 27th, 2019, 12:08 pm

On The View Wednesday morning, Meghan McCain defended former Vice President Joe Biden amid the criticism he’s getting for his remarks expressing regret (again) for the way Anita Hill was treated during her testimony in the infamous 1991 Clarence Thomas confirmation hearing.

Ana Navarro brought up Michael Bloomberg‘s recent comments about the Democratic “apology tour” and said it’s “maddening” to see the public mea culpas when Trump “put somebody on the Supreme Court who did just as bad if not worse than Clarence Thomas.”

“Stop apologizing in public. Call Anita hill and get to campaigning,” she added.

McCain then spoke up in defense of Biden:

“I think it’s dangerous when we use today’s standards by 27-years-ago standards. People can learn, they can evolve, they can change. This was not an issue when he ran for president in 2008. It’s because of the Me Too moment that we’re in. Joe Biden is one of the truly great decent human beings on the planet. If Democrats cannibalize each other, it’s exactly what Trump wants.”

Hostin countered, “I think we have come to a point in our society because of Trump that people are unwilling to own up to their failings, unwilling to apologize. Why not be classy and––”

“He’s a very classy man,” McCain responded. “I cannot sit here and let his record or his character in any way be taken down.”

I think that is the one. She says she will never ever vote for Trump, and you can see the venom. If she is lying, give her an Oscar. Rump has non-stop shit on her father, first when he was alive, now posthumously. I detest her, but agree with her on Trump.

Why are you so sure Meghan will not!

Even Barbara said she was not a Republican after Trump.

You may be surprised how many switch.

Being a Republican is Meghan's whole identity. Guns, flags, military, anti-abortion, morality, Daddy. The only reason she might consider voting for Biden is because of his personal relationship with her father, but I doubt she'd go through with it.

It is entirely possible - for a similar reason - that she might vote for Biden. She voted for Kerry because she knew him and knew how he strongly supported her father several times when he was attacked. In contrast, GWB had smeared her dad in 2000. Biden was a close friend to McCain as well - so the circumstances may be very similar.

Looked at positively - she WAS voting on character personally observed.

And now she has a right-wing husband giving her all the latest propaganda. There's a chance she'd vote for Biden because of his relationship with her father, but I think it would be a really tough decision. She hates Trump and yet always ends up defending him because he's a Republican, the party of Republican Values, guns, military, flags, anti-abortion, Daddy.

possibly to the right of Bush and Kerry was more liberal than Biden.

My point about 2004 -- and the possibility in 2020 if we nominate Biden - is that it would be a vote for a person, based on who he is - in spite of his politics.

knew Anita got treated like crap 27 years ago. People who knew the difference between right and wrong knew it then, they didn't need MeToo to open their eyes. Joe failed back then, he did not get a pass in 2008 (he didn't win, did he?) and for X number of voters he won't ever get a pass for it.

This is actually more along the lines of wishful thinking and that the actual numbers of people who will make something that happened 30 years ago the deciding factor in their vote is relatively low.

And even if it were a factor most people would be more likely to hold Clarence Thomas to account for his behavior rather than Biden. I know that drives the Biden haters here crazy because to them it’s 100 percent all Joe Biden but it’s a more likely scenario than voters diving into the minutae of the Thomas hearings.
