Biden in Iowa pushes public option as affordable, practical health care....😎🐕‍🎨

WILLIAMSBURG — Joe Biden admits his health care plan, which calls for building on the best of the Affordable Care Act, will cost a lot of money — $750 billion over 10 years.

“But it doesn’t cost $30 trillion — trillion,” the Democratic presidential candidate and former vice president said Friday in Williamsburg.

It also has the advantage of being implemented much sooner than the four- to 10-year transitions other candidates talk about.

“People need hope. They need security. They need certainty now, and I think we can get it done,” Biden said after speaking to more than 100 people at the Williamsburg Middle School.

Like many in Biden’s audience, Lois Berry of Williamsburg was concerned about health care. She hasn’t decided who she will caucus for Feb. 3.

“There are several I’m thinking about,” she said, adding that she has several concerns. One is Medicare for All.

“It could be a problem,” she said. Berry is leaning toward Biden’s approach of Medicare for All “maybe in time, but not right away.”

“Keep Obamacare and make it better,” she said.

Biden thinks the price tag on Medicare for All plans not only will scare voters, “but it’s not practical.”

“It’s a staggering number — more money per year than the entire federal budget,” he said.

Today, 16 percent of Americans are on Medicare, “and you’re going to add another 84 percent — 280 million at one time — and everybody’s taxes aren’t going to go up to pay for it?” Biden said. “Middle-class people are going to be worse off than they are paying for their insurance now.”

Universal single-payer such has what exists in the UK was born out of the ashes of the Depression and WWII. The system was in chaos. They time was ripe for a dramatic overhaul of healthcare.

I am not a fan of our insurance company-based health system but we shouldn’t just throw it out for MFA. That would be too drastic of a change IMHO.

And many more people will be left underinsured. But that's a sacrifice we all have to make for a for-profit lie, right?

Btw, I fielded the exact same arguments during the fight for the public option so many years ago, and now its palatable? What changed?

Let's stop playing cooties and actually solve the healthcare crisis.

that didn't expand medicaid....MFA will never happen not with a right wing court...kind of sad that those who advocate this needed the courts on their side and let's face it...some of them voted Green last time...thus sabotaging their own plan.

4. Per Capita spending on Healthcare in Western Single Payer Countries
Sat Dec 28, 2019, 12:22 PM
Dec 2019

is roughly 1/2 of what it is in America ….Even a Koch Bros . funded study conceded MFA saves money ...And everyone gets covered … No one is forced into bankruptcy for the crime of getting cancer - or some other potentially deadly disease ... Health outcomes are just as good, if not better, under Single Payer .....This is why the rest of the Western World has gone to their version of MFA - and never thought twice of going back to our shitty system …………Under the Public Option ,these greedy private health insurance companies are going to force the sick onto Medicare, resulting in massive red ink …...Then we will never get MFA

I do have a problem with what I consider to be a wrong implicit characterization of net costs of alternative proposals. That latter part strikes me as a matter of political expedience.
