https://www.mediaite.com/opinion/politico-claims-dems-think-bernie-can-win-the-nomination-even-though-zero-of-them-said-that/On Thursday, Politico published an article entitled Democratic insiders: Bernie could win the nomination that quoted a number of prominent figures urging that Sanders candidacy be taken seriously, but none of them came close to predicting a Sanders victory in the primary.
For example, Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, said I believe people should take him very seriously, noted Sanders polling strength in early states like Iowa, Vermont, and Nevada, and said that Sanders could build a real head of steam heading into South Carolina and Super Tuesday.

The truth is that Bernie Sanders has not been taken seriously enough in the political coverage of the Democratic primary race. That has worked somewhat to his advantage, as Politico notes, because he has escaped the kind of scrutiny that might negatively impact him. Elizabeth Warren sank in the polls after she was pressured into releasing plans to finance Medicare for All that included not even voting on Medicare for All until the end of her first term.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
Me.
(35,454 posts)We've had enough of fakey news. If he can win, he'll be up in the polls, and win primaries (not caucuses which can be another form of dis-info).

If you really think about it, Bernie hasnt been hit a lot with anything. Its not like hes getting hit by other campaigns, said Michael Ceraso, a former New Hampshire director for Pete Buttigiegs campaign who worked for Sanders in 2016. .
If Sanders candidacy continues to be taken seriously, he will eventually be subjected to the scrutiny that Warren and Biden have faced for prolonged stretches. That includes an examination of his electability. That conversation has never worked well for anyone, Pfeiffer said
There is so much oppo that is out there on sanders that trump would win 45+ states by merely playing the video clips of sanders praising Cuba, socialism, and Central American regimes on a loop.

His "grass roots movement" isn't doing him much good, especially in Iowa. He touts his "25,000" ground game in Iowa (that's one for every 24 Democratic voters) and yet he doesn't even have a clear lead, indeed he's second by 22-20 behind Buttigieg.
One can have all the money in the world and a huge "grass roots movement", but if people don't agree with the message they're not going to vote for him.

(145,530 posts)The article is not that helpful to sanders. It discuses the fact that sanders has a floor and ceiling of support https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/26/can-bernie-sanders-win-2020-election-president-089636
He cant win the nomination, said Matt Bennett, co-founder of the center-left group Third Way, adding that Sanders uptick is simply him bouncing around between his ceiling and his floor a little bit more than people had thought he would.

(180 posts)When I'd say a good 30%-40% of the party is HARD against him. Most of the party is not as left wing as Bernie. Sure, he has a chance to win some contests as he did in 2016, but I just don't see him winning the nomination.
