Bernie Sanders Now Leads All Other Democrats in Hypothetical Match-Up Vs. Trump

Whether we like it or not, horse race season is upon us, and that means pundits and voters and candidates will increasingly be asking a simple question: Which Democrat has the best chance against Trump? The numbers have fluctuated throughout the primary, but in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, it’s Bernie Sanders who has the best hypothetical numbers against the president:

Sanders and Biden are both +4 in the hypothetical match-up, but it's Sanders who attracts the most voters. It's all within the margin of error still, but these results are good enough to put the lie to the idea that Sanders' ideas somehow make him unelectable. Sanders and Biden both lead Warren, who holds a +2 margin over Trump, While Bloomberg is +1 and Buttigieg (-1) is the only likely nominee who trails Trump.

We don't need another tired old baby boomer to replace the worst President in our history.

We need someone dynamic, thoughtful and open minded.

After Buchanan, we had Lincoln.

After Hoover, FDR.

After Trump, Sanders?

Thu Dec 26, 2019, 03:27 PM
Dec 2019

...tired old man, she has changed her mind about many things in her lifetime. I note that many of the "purity freaks" - and they are freaks - note, at one time she was a (gasp) Republican.

I disagree with Ms. Warren, my second choice for the nomination, on many things, some of which are extremely important to me, but would not have to hold my nose to vote for her in a general election because she has retained, throughout her whole life a flexibility of mind. Sanders has not.

However, if you desire to lecture me on thinking and rhetoric, may I suggest that if one wishes to engage in clear thinking, one should not focus too much on a small phrase set in a larger context.

Of course, if one has a very superficial outlook - this is a feature of the age of anti-thinking, the Twitter age of tweeting by twits - one can explode a tiny phrase into something which has meaning, even if it lacks it.

I do not object to Senator Sanders because he is old; I object to him because despite a long life, he has apparently not changed his mind about anything. Moreover, because his mind is inflexible and dogmatic, he likes to bring up what other people, say for example, Joe Biden, said or did 20 or 30 years ago. He thinks what one thought 30 years ago matters; I emphatically disagree.

Frankly, though, Senator Sanders is not worth much more than a few phrases. He was boring in 2016, he's boring now, an uninspiring sloganeer. As someone pointed out in a joke I liked very much and asked to steal, he is very much concerned with winning the 1980 Presidential election, but doesn't know shit from shinola about the 21st century.

Sorry, but I'm not interested in making further "points" about an intellectual primitive, which is what I regard Senator Sanders to be. It is simply not the case that every problem in the world can be solved by sneering the word "corporate."

I am a baby boomer myself, to be sure, an old man, disgusted by what my generation is leaving for the future world, but one thing I can say is that I'm no airhead repeating tired rhetoric from the 1960's. That rhetoric will make the world worse, not better, and although I was a part of the origins of that mentality, I have learned to reject it.

OK Boomer?

Unfortunately, Senator Sanders reminds me, as an ex-New Yorker, of many people I used to know.

I consider these people to be conservatives, since a conservative is by definition a person who thinks that nothing should be done the first time.

The reason I've latched on Mr. Yang, for the time being, besides my views on the most important issue, in my opinion, climate change, is that I see him seriously mulling over the issues of our times in a new way. He may not be right on some things, but he's thinking anew.

Tue Dec 24, 2019, 09:06 AM

to destroy NATO and start a new alliance that would include Russia (!) and focus on a pissant Middle East terrorist organization. The one that was almost dead until Trump obligingly revived it for Putin.

I need one of Sanders' ardent followers, who certainly should understand his goals and motivations, to explain this. I mean, Russia has been rearming for several years, has invaded two eastern European nations, promises his nation to invade and take over another dozen, and is attacking the United States with intent to eliminate us as a world power who could stop him. All this as Europe is forced to re-arm against Russia.

There must be an innocent explanation. One hopefully that put an abrupt end to Putin's chortling when Sanders endorsed his cynical proposal. One that instead struck fear into his heart and made him realize he made a terrible mistake by puffing Sanders up as a national figure through massive social media campaigns and promoting his candidacy for president.

What on earth is it?

39 / 74 = 52.7
40 / 76 = 52.6

So Biden is still “leading”.

It is odd that no one get more than 40%. If you are only going to beat Trump by 4% nationally, there is a good chance you won't win the electoral college. Any way you look at it , there is not a lot to get excited about here.
