Mediaite article, with a link to the WaPo video which I'll post below:
https://www.mediaite.com/election-2020/pete-buttigieg-swipes-back-at-elizabeth-warren-over-dem-process-purity-tests/
During a Washington Post event today, Robert Costa asked Buttigieg about his campaign, protesters, and recent comments from Warren about him. Per Politico:
When a candidate brags about how beholden he feels to a group of wealthy investors, our democracy is in serious trouble, Warren argued.
Costa asked Buttigieg about the criticism.
The thing about these purity tests, he responded, is the people issuing them cant even meet them, right? If doing traditional fundraisers disqualifies you from running for president, then I guess neither one of us would be here. Lets have a serious conversation about where this country is headed.
He also questioned the wisdom of hitting somebody with a process purity test when were in the debate of our lifetimes about what its going to take to move this country forward.

The Mediaite article also include a Washington Post tweet

According to Mediaite, that section starts about 22:30, but I found it started at 22:50.
Mayor Pete isn't my preferred candidate. But I'm glad to see him speaking out against purity tests.

(6,110 posts)wealth disparity in USA. It grew under Bush-43. Grew more under Obama-44. And it is growing faster under #45.
More and more power is in hands of the top 0.01%. Look at how easily Steyer and Bloomberg can run for president without having any record of leadership in the democratic party. This is scary stuff. No one has better agenda and determination and energy to address this issue than Senator Warren.
Megan Rapinoe endorsement? If she won't get behind the mayor and prefers Warren, it is just the icing on the cake.

(2,566 posts)This is probably the wrong thread to post this--I'm never quite sure--but seeing the solidarity of the republicans during the impeachment hearings is making it hard for me to deal with our people arguing with each other--even though that is exactly what they're supposed to be doing during this season.
The fact that no republican (and no, I just can't capitalize it) is openly running against DT is probably making it stand out even more. If he and, say, Romney were arguing it would make things feel less imbalanced.
I just want to say, "Kids, kids, kids, stop fighting." I've lost all capacity for listening to arguments.
End of little non sequitur rant.
Whoever is nominated has me. Period.

Mayor Pete could seriously be in the running for VP.

This tiff is not good for either candidate.
Pete is playing with fire here. A significant amount of his support has come over from Warren as she stumbled. Getting into a one on one with her could sting.
It actually looks more that he thinks tactically and not strategically.

He's tough, smart and, most importantly, adaptable. He's hung in this far, the flack is just going to get heavier. They don't have Kamala to scrutinize anymore, so the light is going to get more glaring. Good, this is how we vett. The more he gets questioned hard, the better he seems to become. Sometimes pressure makes diamonds.

(3,150 posts)I give our AA's credit for being pragmatic. I really think it's Biden's to lose and if, Chuthulu forbid, something happens, Warren is best positioned.
As with Yang, I promote Pete because I think he has ideas that need to be heard and discussed. Right now I give Biden 7-2.

(54 posts)The campaign has started putting out some videos to show his hometown support. There was also the event last week where local black leaders expressed their support, though the Sanders supporters protesting it garnered most of the press coverage. It's probably too little too late, but he does have people there that can vouch for him. I think it will remain a problem during the early primaries, but if he became the nominee he could definitely change the narrative. Especially because his biggest critics at home are still Democrats and they too want to defeat Trump.

(6,110 posts)black population of South Bend. The black population there is angry over police behavior, dismantling of thousands of houses without building replacements, etc. South Bend is not exactly your model small town America. If it was, mayor Pete would have a better chance in spite of his young age and lack of experience in DC.
