Democratic Primaries

"SNIP.....
Here's a number to chew on: 71%.
That's the percentage of Democrats in new Gallup polling that say their health care is either "excellent" or "good." Which is a very interesting finding given that the biggest divide within the 2020 Democratic field is over health care.
On one side are former Vice President Joe Biden and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who support a sort-of mend-it-don't-end-it approach to the current law of the land -- the Affordable Care Act. Both Biden and Buttigieg support keeping the Affordable Care Act, passed into law by President Barack Obama, while seeking to fix the parts of the law -- high premium costs, lack of choice -- that have come under criticism.
On the other side are Sens. Bernie Sanders (Vermont) and Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts), both of whom support "Medicare for All," which would get rid of all private health insurance in favor of a government-run system. Their argument is that the current system -- put in place by Obama -- is an improvement on what it replaced but is simply not enough, and needs to go in order to be replaced by a public health insurance system.
If you are Sanders or Warren, the Gallup numbers have to give you some pause. When seven in 10 of your voters say they are happy with something -- anything! -- it is usually inadvisable to stake your campaign on the idea that the thing they like needs to be fundamentally altered.

(428 posts)because not liking the cost of healthcare is alway hight in our polls as well
fixing a broken leg will always be good and will always poll high
yes, my doctors are competent, and I like them will also always poll well.
but one person getting a hundred dollar bill vs someone getting a bill for thousands should also be entered into the nation's concerns.

(118,759 posts)but Democrats need to win the election first. Then implement policies that get most Americans to trust government again. And then medicare for all if Obamacare is not improved enough.

(26,335 posts)I have always had excellent healthcare. But I personally know two people who would probably be alive today if they had excellent healthcare.
Also, I personally know people who had to roll the dice for a few years before their Medicare kicked in.
And I personally know people who are on Medicaid now because they are out of work.
Im a Democrat. I care about people that are less fortunate than me. I also know I could end up in the same boat - especially as I get older, less employable, and less healthy.
I guess this is too foreign of a concept for that pin-dick Cillizza and our other conservative friends.

(31,261 posts)I have good health insurance. I don't see bills for procedures that look expensive like colonoscopy. My health is good, I have no prescriptions that I need or else, the three that I have are situational, I can chose to get them filled or not do it.
So, other than for societal reasons, MFA would be a hard sell to me.

(31,261 posts)Most Americans don't, and I think that is where MFA runs into resistance, people don't see how it won't cost them more money than they are now paying.

(312 posts)He could tell me the sky is blue or that the pope is catholic or that puppies are cute or that trump sucks and my first instinct will always be to hock a lugie on his dumb face.
That people take him seriously and pay deference to his opinion just makes me...feel like I feel when someone praises David Brooks. 2+2=5, take a sip of Victory Gin, USA!
