Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI finally figured out why I didn't leap on the Harris bandwagon.
Maybe this accounts for others, too.
I was super impressed with her quick, District Attorney type, ability to respond to things. She was so clear. This appeals to me a lot, but, I've learned over time, not to everyone. What she lacked was that next step beyond sterling district attorney, that "je ne sais quoi pas" that candidates have that grabs the imagination. I think Sanders and Warren and Buttigieg have it. I don't think Biden does. He's leading for other reasons. Klobuchar doesn't either, but she may be the last one left standing, simply because she's so vanilla. (In a good way.)

(1,663 posts)With the exception of Sen.Warren, I found the other two folks to be very boring. Harris, Booker, Castro, and even Mrs. Williamson (and others, too) are loads more interesting than Buttigieg and Sanders, to me. Sen. Biden is a warm person and has been a democratic fixture for such a long time that he just feels like family. Our personal experiences and interactions shape how we see the world and receive people. It's truly in the eye of the beholder.

(8,680 posts)Harris has charisma, intellect, charm, experience and is tough as nails. Seems a perfect candidate for President... imo.

(37,748 posts)But I get your criticism of her... you're saying she doesn't have the indefinable qualities you're unable to define, and predicate your lack of support for her on that unknown.
Sounds rational.

Sounds like your "je ne sais quoi pas" doesn't really have anything to do with anything.

(50,990 posts)got us trump. How many times did we hear people saying they weren't "excited" to vote for Clinton, or they weren't "inspired" by her. Today, I'd like to throttle every last one of them.
We ought to know better by now. It's a dumbass criterion. Please, oh please, let us be more hardheaded than that this time.

(7,372 posts)Both Warren and Buttigieg have that kind of charisma to me, but I admit to being mystified by Sanders' appeal. He leaves me completely cold.

(9,961 posts)... is a good name for whatever it is... I consider Harris an early favorite. I still think she's very impressive... but there was no going to the next level, after she got her shot. Yes, Sanders, Warren and Buttigieg bask in that "Presidential Candidate" glow. Klobuchar might, but she's never really stepped into that spotlight. I think, if Klobuchar gets into the "front-runner" spotlight, she may... we haven't seen it, yet...

(28,835 posts)She had some charisma for that.
I think most voters are looking beyond social charisma.

(39,377 posts)That was an OTR assessment in the Times from her advisors just before the campaign was shut down, and it jumped out at me.
She had plenty of intangibles; ie charisma and passion. But the policy depth was lacking, severely. We have some heavyweights on that stage and she didn't measure up.
