Mike Bloomberg bets big on California, but the state has a history of rejecting ultra-wealthy candidates

Michael Bloomberg’s wildly expensive path to the White House runs straight through California — a state that’s proven to be treacherous for other candidates with big ambitions and even bigger bank accounts.

The former New York City mayor is taking an unorthodox move of skipping the early presidential primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire completely while dumping millions of dollars of his massive fortune on Super Tuesday states, including the Golden State. That strategy isn’t lost on anyone in California who has turned on a TV this month.

But other millionaires and billionaires who’ve tried to spend staggering sums to win Senate seats or the governor’s office in California have flamed out — most spectacularly tech executive Meg Whitman, who burned a record $141 million of her own money on her failed 2010 governor’s bid.

“The political roadways of California are littered with the bodies of candidates who tried to buy their way into office,” said Garry South, a Democratic strategist who ran successful campaigns against several self-funding candidates.

Support from Moderate Republicans who are disgusted by Trump....yes, I am sure

But I don’t see him overwhelmingly convincing this Blue State to walk with him...

...will not be buying what Bloomberg is selling. Stop and Frisk alone makes his candidacy untenable.
