(18,770 posts)Presently, I use fixed wireless broadband running @ 12 mips which, while not blindingly fast, gives me enough to stream TV and web apps. But, it has high latency (90ms or more ping times, which means no online gaming for me w/o issues).
I hope Joe adopts something similar.

(581 posts)corbyn's failings are to do with his actual leadership. a lot of his ideas would be very popular and electable if there was someone with less evasiveness on issues of antisemitism, brexit and nato as the labour party leader.

(9,116 posts)I don't disagree. But he is charismatic, and a lot of his ideas are good ideas even if he isn't able to flesh out the details. Wepeople who think other candidates are more suited to the jobshould be a bit more complementary to these ideas, and a little less eager to shit all over the man every time he opens his mouth.
You talk a lot about a candidate who can win Michigan. Well, let me tell you a little story about Michigan:
I have a colleague up in the UP, a pediatric hematologist/oncologist. He treats kids with hemophilia. He treats kids with cancer. And he's the only such specialist in a three-county radius. His patients drive up to three hours each way to visit his office. For some, it is faster to drive to Green Bay, WI.
So, we had the great idea of starting a telemedical program linking underserved populations with specialists here in the LP. Instead of spending six hours in the car for a routine checkup, our patients could drive to a local community clinic and see one of our docs through our web conferencing system.
It's functional, but it isn't ideal. Patients can still be up to an hour's drive away from these community clinics. In bad weather (September through May), that just isn't going to happen. Also, the internet in the UP is, generally, awful. It's bad in the cities. It's terrible in the villages. It can be non-existent in households.
Fixing our telecom and internet infrastructure isn't "free stuff". In Michigan, it will literally save lives, and there are people in the blood red UP who understand that on a very personal level.
I'm not going to vote for Bernie Sanders in the primary. But this is a good idea. I give no fucks who brought it up.

(94,598 posts)...but the reality is that Bernie has a "my way or the highway" approach to politics, and seems to think that opposition will cave in the face of his "revolution". They didn't show up in 2016 or 2018, and there's no sign that they're showing up now. Add to which, his OTHER high dollar policy proposals make the odds for funding this one that much lower.
