Related: About this forumMerle Gorman, the 83-yr-old Iowan who confronted Biden, now says Joe has a wet noodle for a backbone
More info on him. This is from the NY Post. He was apparently quite happy to brag to them about how he felt he was educating the other voters at that event.
https://nypost.com/2019/12/05/man-who-clashed-with-biden-at-iowa-campaign-event-glad-it-happened/
Im positive 90% of the people there didnt know about his son working on the board in Ukraine. I wanted it brought out there, said 83-year-old Merle Gorman, referring to Bidens son Hunters job at a Ukrainian gas company.
If it educated them a little bit, so be it, Gorman said. Im glad it happened.
-snip-
Gorman said: The exchange speaks for itself. He didnt have the guts to explain the situation, and thats what I wanted.
He got pissed off and stomped around he wasnt happy at all, Gorman continued. He started mumbling, saying it wasnt true.
After today, he told me what hes made out of hes got a wet noodle for a backbone.
Gorman, who said he is a Marine Corps veteran and retired farmer, went to the event because it was taking place a couple of blocks from his home, and was spurred to ask about Hunters Ukraine dealings after hearing the other questions from the crowd.
All the others were softballs questions, they might as well have been asking him what color the chandelier was in the vice presidents office, Gorman said.
-snip-
I told him, Youre damn near as old as I am and I know for a fact my mental faculties have slipped since I hit the 70s, Gorman said.
-snip-
I'd say it's obvious that Gorman's mental faculties have slipped, and I have doubts about how great they were to start with, if he was dumb enough to think other voters going to a campaign event for Biden wouldn't have heard about the Ukraine smears.
Gorman's a self-righteous, stupid jerk.
And NOT a Democrat.
He told the Post he voted for Obama.
I don't believe it.

(22,877 posts)"We all know Trump has been messing around in the Ukraine over there, holding their foreign aid, so they'll say they're having an investigation, we know all of that. He has no backbone. But you on the other hand, sent your son over there, to get a job and work for a gas company, that he had no experience with gas, nothing. In order to get access for the president. You're selling access to the president just like he is."
You can listen to it here..

Thanks for the transcript, will read the rest.
Still not sure where he "attacked" Biden's son.
Edit: yeah ok I read it. Looks like the only name calling was from Biden. This is really depressing.

(49,003 posts)access to President Obama, and you're all upset about Biden pointing out, very correctly, that Gorman's a damn liar? You find Biden calling him a liar "really depressing"?
I'm amazed to see anyone say that in a Democratic forum.

(6,831 posts)That's not name calling, that's calling it what it is. Gorman also said he'd seen this 'all over MSNBC.' Bullshit. I watch MSNBC and I have yet to hear anyone say that.
He wanted a provocation and he got it. It just didn't turn out the way he expected.
Further, calling Joe Biden "spineless," WAS name-calling, not to mention derogatory and inaccurate.

(115,103 posts)But seriously, think of the optics. Guy didn't sound hostile as he asked Biden about the RW talking points. So the response seems pretty unwarranted.
I just now saw where the guy went on interviews and said Biden was senile, so he really doesn't deserve any of the attention he's getting. He's a troll.

(49,003 posts)He went there to disrupt the event and grab headlines. He claims he was educating the others there, which indicates he's either very stupid, not knowing how much media coverage the Ukraine story already got, or he's simply a lying disrupter trying to upset Biden and to get more media coverage of a particularly nasty spin on the Ukraine story.
Either way, he doesn't deserve any respect from any Democrat.

(16,954 posts)his words. That seems to be the thing now. When they cant get any traction with the furious fight drama, more drama is drummed up by changing his words. Its so ridiculous.
I saw the threads in a restaurant, and we waited until going out to the car to actually listen, and it was nothing like the drama threads here. Shameful, but predictable.

(70 posts)It started with "Joe lost his temper" to "Joe called him fat, lazy, and stupid" (seriously, this is the charge that even people like Seth Abramson are going with). I expect the distortion from Trumpers, but it's very disheartening to see Democrats who just don't prefer Biden in the first place to jump on this bandwagon. It's fine to not like Biden's style in how he dealt with this, but he's used the pushups/IQ test quip in the past as well when people question his age. To act like he said "Look, fat" (????) just doesn't make sense. My BS meter went off when this person said that he "heard it on MSNBC". There is a large segment of Democrats who are ready for politicians to call a lie a lie.
