Former secretary of state John F. Kerry endorsed Joe Bidens presidential candidacy on Thursday, saying his longtime friend and colleague has the character, experience and leadership skills to restore the nations standing abroad and confront urgent problems at home.
Im not endorsing Joe because Ive known him a long time. Im endorsing him because I know him so well, Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, said in a telephone interview ahead of the formal announcement of his endorsement.
Kerry will join Biden on the campaign trail Friday in Iowa, where the former vice president is in the midst of a week-long bus tour of the state, and in New Hampshire on Sunday, according to the Biden campaign. The former secretary of state said he would continue to campaign for Biden in the weeks and months ahead.
The world is broken, said Kerry, who was made available for the interview by Bidens campaign. Our politics are broken. The country faces extraordinary challenges. And I believe very deeply that Joe Bidens character, his ability to persevere, his decency and the experiences that he brings to the table are critical to the moment. The world has to be put back together, the world that Donald Trump has smashed apart.

(16,646 posts)Is endorsing a candidate who may lose the next election.
I'm kinda wondering when the establishment/centrist democrats will understand that they don't frequently understand who can win an actual election. Yeah, I know everyone is still freaking out over McGovern's loss. But they don't seem to ever remember that Dukakis, Kerry, HRC, and Gore all lost their elections. But some how McGovern is the lesson to be learned. History seems to suggest that since FDR, democrats win when they offer an "new" and alternative candidate, not just some warmed over version of the last victory. Obama was new and different. Really, so was Bill Clinton. Whether you liked them or not, they won by being new and different, which is what those voters that decide elections seem to respond when a democrat wins.

(16,646 posts)The Russians influenced Americans to vote stupid, much like many influences that make Americans vote stupid, but she lost none the less. Let's remember she was off campaigning in places like Arizona while letting Michigan "ride" not understanding that she was losing there. Even she acknowledges that her campaign screwed up.
