https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/12/05/protester-steals-microphone-pete-buttigieg-black-voters-event-south-bend/Sharon McBride was hoping to showcase the good done by her mayor, Pete Buttigieg, for her community African American residents of South Bend, Ind. when a voice interrupted her from the crowd.
Where are the black leaders who dont have three-piece suits, leather jackets, and nice clothing? asked a man in a Black Lives Matter South Bend shirt, grabbing the mic out of her hands on Wednesday. Who chose these people as black leaders?
Snip
Its deeply depressing that @BernieSanders supporters have gone from harassing @PeteButtigiegs staffers of color online to harassing our supporters of color in real life, but here we are, she wrote on Twitter.
The protesters carried signs saying Black Lives Matter, though the South Bend chapter of that group did not immediately respond to The Posts request for comment about whether they organized the demonstration. One of the protesters was photographed wearing a Sanders hat....more

(14,838 posts)And not a real person. As much as I hated the tactics in 16, we have to be careful about the bot activity in 20. They will work to open old divides on both sides and tilt the field towards trump.
It could be an effective strategy. Which is why I've called on bernie to drop out now. He has to see he won't be the nominee, that the "reasons" he ran in 16 have been accomplished (party moved left and progressive policies in the forefront).
There is no reason for him to continue as a candidate. Retire and save your country.

(45,120 posts)on anything. Maybe the Pete's campaign should apologize for their "false narrative that it was a white Bernie Sanders" supporter. It's "important to note that the man is a POC." Those pesky little facts are in the letter from BLM South Bend

(14,838 posts)But sad. If this originated from an organic dispute, then fine, let them hash it out. But organized by an alternate campaign as a strategy? That is so undemocratic it boils the blood. This will have lasting tears to the community, and only works to re-elect trump.
If you feel so strongly, don't steal a mic, get your own and let the best argument win.

(31,906 posts)What is distressing to me - when I look at the visuals and read the article -
Who the hell is that white guy to take a mic from that woman and basically use language to call her 'uppity'? I don't expect everyone to understand that 'question' - but I strong believe that other black women here at DU will understand.
He's basically say black people aren't really black unless they are poor - and that's a really fucked up kind of racism that is extremely dangerous. That's how the Tulsa and Rosewood massacres happened.

(37,364 posts)and the disruption was at a meeting organized by black supporters of Buttegieg. Some seemed to know about and identify the people in the Sanders group. My reading was that these were local people.

(14,838 posts)Grabbing the mic from a black woman and asking who appointed these black leaderrs.
I assumed the mic grabber was black or a person of color.
That is DISGUSTING! So the camp behind that stunt couldn't even find a black supporter to do it? Maybe someone from a state that is less than 1% black could still at least find a black supporter somewhere to do his dirty tricks.
I guess not. This is really disturbing. This is gop level disturbing, but from our own side.

(31,906 posts)We are ITA.
That said - if it is Sanders or Buttigieg - we all need to haul ass to the polls and vote like our lives depend on it.
Both - hands down flat out would be better than this utter shit show we have been assaulted with the past three years.
There are only two candidates who I will be disgusted by - and of those two - she doesn't (Gabbard) have a snow balls chance in hell. The other one - Bloomberg - is distasteful and arrogant.
Other than that -
Let's win this fucking election!

(3,635 posts)but it is the alt-left as movement that has taken hold on twitter/facebook over the past 10 years or so, that is hard left on economics and libertarian/conservative on social values, and that hates Dems.
they all seem to imitate the white left-bro hipster type glamorized by the media.
reminds me of how Repub PoC/women/etc (like Anne Coulter, Michelle Malkin, etc) appear to be imitating the white male loudmouth Repub, that they see as the powerful one in society, and want to imitate.

There are deplorables online still claiming the Obamas are too wealthy and shouldn't have a nice house or wear nice clothing.
If South Bend BLM has a valid point on police violence, then this protest was an epic fail because it looks like an attack on black leaders by an entitled white looking guy. Yes, I know the BLM statement claimed he was a POC living in the poorest part of South Bend frustrated with housing demolitions and asbestos in the air but none of that comes through in this protest. Epic Fail. I doubt they gain much support for their cause with tactics like this.
