Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumGene Robinson thought Biden did well in the debate. He added that in fact "it was
kind of a Biden day" because of all the attention the impeachment hearings give to Trump's obsession with Biden.
Robinson dismissed Biden's misstatement re being endorsed by the only black woman elected to the Senate.
He pointed out that it was just a Bidenism, that he's been occasionally misspeaking for many years, and it hasn't hurt him.
I agree with Robinson.
I thought Biden came across as presidential.
The others came across as hoping someday to be presidential.

(8,144 posts)connects emotionally with his audience and is so authentic much of the time overshadows the
glitches which he himself caught tonight. And he does not disrespect his fellows like Cory Booker did with his cheap laugh line. Further, Booker completely misstated Bidens stance.
You dont get it, but many do. Not that you are wrongjust that he gets a pass on speech glitches for a reason. Not going to go over his resume of accomplishments but no jabbering talks to as many influential people all over the world and effectively influences them.
He is actually, despite wording glitches, a highly successful communicator, The proof is in the pudding, which he has to offer.

(115,836 posts)but she was the first black woman senator so her endorsement was worth something, and O'Donnell's phrasing suggesting it wasn't important struck me as a bit hypocritical under the circumstances.

(673 posts)to parse every word Biden says and try to use them against him. At one point, and for a long time, she was the only black woman elected to the Senate and Biden just fell back into the way he thought about her during that time. A pretty simple mistake that doesn't have any other meaning to it.
We need to remember that Trump won the Presidency and he can barely form a coherent sentence. It just not something that people care about.

(12,875 posts)Same problem I had with Hillary.
In 2002 during the mad rush to war with Iraq with all the lies and PNAC agenda we needed strong Democratic leaders to stand up and speak truth to power in opposing this colossal strategic blunder which was, ultimately, a war crime.
It's difficult for me to put into words how hurt and betrayed I felt when nearly half the Democrats in Congress voted to give GW Bush the power to invade Iraq.
I was especially upset with John Kerry, who garnered national attention as a leader of Vietnam Veterans against that disastrous war.
And I have never forgotten or forgiven others who enabled the disastrous war of GW Bush rather than leading the fight against it.
Having said that, i will support whichever candidate I think has the best chance to beat Donald Trump, even if it's Joe Biden.
And I will, of course, vote for the Democratic nominee in the general election.

(68,667 posts)this policy were tossed out...Max Cleland comes to mind. Let it go. Every nominee save Obama voted for it...both Kerry and Clinton did...no one ever said much about Kerry but it was used to pound Clinton as some will use Biden's vote...George Bush took us to war...and I doubt any vote would have stopped him...we would have lost the next election worse than what we did...so let it go. Blame Bush not Democrats who did not do this.

(5,811 posts)president of the United States.
Biden said he would have an independent DOJ and it would be up to the Justice Department, not the president to determine if Trump should be held criminally liable for his criminal acts.
Biden also said at this time neither a Dem senate or House would pass Medicare for All which would mean moving 160 million from their private insurance to a govt run plan. Real potential presidents recognize there are three co-equal branches of government.
Most of the candidates including some of the senators speak in the same authoritarian tones as Trump did when he was running in 2016.
This is why I really hope Joe Biden is our nominee but I'm committed to voting for our eventual nominee no matter what.
