Bernie Sanders wins this weeks Daily Kos Straw Poll, coming in with 38 percent of the vote out of over 50,000 cast (down six points from his post-announcement high a month ago). Elizabeth Warren is back in second place (albeit at a distance), perhaps helped by her strong CNN forum performance? Her proposal for universal child care certainly is a winner. Kamala Harris dropped a bit to land just barely behind her in third place, with Beto ORourke not far behind her, definitely getting a boost out of his announcement last week. Buttigieg is the only other person cracking five percent and
does anyone really think hell stick around that high? Hes riding the high from a viral appearance at South by Southwest. Id guess its temporary.
My sense is that, broadly speaking, Bernie, with his universal name ID, has little room to grow. Meanwhile, the threats to his candidacy are twofold: 1) Elizabeth Warren matches up ideologically, and can be a source of defections if he falters (or if his more virulent supporters drive people away), and 2) the nonideological part of Bernies base, those looking for a fresh new face untainted by the stench of the establishment, are favorably predisposed toward Beto (and Buttigieg could catch sustained fire). Those of you on political Twitter might have noticed that Bernie supporters have an especially pronounced hatred for Beto. Their tactics might be unproductive (hurling invective at detractors wins exactly zero new votes), but theyre not wrong to sense the threat. This poll further suggests that threat is real.

In his defense, he reads the LA Times every morning while I scan the NY Times, WaPo and selections from whatever searches on events turn up.

Sadly, recent moves by the campaign seem to indicate that the tone is more "Fuck Your Feelings" than "Yes We Can."

(3,473 posts)In real, honest, dependable polling ... questions aren't done in the same order for everyone, so there isn't an unconscious bias in the order of questioning, unconscious leading.
Since it's clear they have biased questions, who knows what other type of biased methodology they have in their poll.
There are more than enough reputable polls out there, that I can ignore this one without feeling too bad about it.

This is very strange. Youre saying this is a bad poll because it is biased against everyone in it?

(3,473 posts)Washington Governor Jay Inslee is the only Democrat running for President who has welcomed the support of a Super PAC. Inslees Super PAC is run by a former top aide, and is spending over $1 million in advertising to boost his campaign But Inslee refuses to disavow this Super PAC. Does this make you more likely or less likely to support Jay Inslee in the Iowa Caucus, or does it not make a difference?
This polling is a joke.
