A longtime ally of former Vice President Joe Biden filed paperwork to form a super PAC supporting Biden's 2020 presidential bid on Monday after his campaign signaled openness to accept financial support from the groups.
Democratic consultant Larry Rasky filed the paperwork to create the group, which is known as Unite the Country, according to Federal Election Commission documents signed by Rasky on Monday.
Rasky, who is a veteran of Biden's 1988 and 2008 presidential campaigns, is shown as the group's treasurer on the documents. A number of other Biden allies, including Mark Riddle, Julianna Smoot, and Steve Schale are in talks about joining the group, according to Politico.
News of the group's formation comes less than a week after Biden's campaign signaled openness to using a super PAC to boost his 2020 bid, but said Biden would ultimately work to end the use of the groups if he becomes president.

(10,839 posts)Biden is already running against Trump's money machine and relentless disinformation team. He needs mega-bucks to combat that and push back effectively. The super PACs are a legal way of doing just that.
Take it to Trumpster, Joe. And beat that drum.

(7,527 posts)Has the Biden campaign made that promise? Is there a link to that?
I just did a search and the Politico article didn't make it sound like it was only going to be used against rump:
"Without a robust online fundraising operation that can match top-tier rivals like Sanders or Elizabeth Warren, the Biden campaign still could run low on money as the long, costly primary season drags toward Super Tuesday."

(43,487 posts)some of the Super Pacs, and because there is no 'legally allowed' coordination with the campaign, Biden can say he is not breaking the pledge or his word to attack other Democrats. I TRULY hope I am wrong, wrong, wrong.
That said, Warren and Bernie had better, perhaps, put on some flame retardant underwear when it comes to MFA and other far lefty stuffs. They might have a go at Pete over his age, and his experience (although he does have 8 years executive experience with oversight over a budget and staff that dwarfs a Senator's and a Representative's (but not a governor's, not that that matters as only Bullock is left there.)

(7,527 posts)And it is funny that shortly after the announcement by the campaign Biden folks start up a Super PAC, from which we will get no accountability as far as who is behind the funding.

Super PACS can raise and spend unlimited amounts, of what is often called dark money from single laerge contributors. That is why it is an issue.
