Ex-Vice President Joe Biden was tops among Democrats in a new CNN poll on the 2020 presidential race, but California Sen. Kamala Harris had registered the greatest gains in a wide-open nomination contest.
Four Democrats were in double digits: Biden is on top at 28 percent, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders at 20 percent, Harris at 12 percent and newly announced newcomer ex-Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke at 11 percent.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee was back of the pack at 1 percent, tied with South Bend, Indian Mayor Pete Buttigieg, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and former HUD Secretary Julian Castro.
The poll was largely a reflection of who voters already know. They know Biden, who has been around the track for two presidential bids and two terms as Barack Obama's vice president.

(7,113 posts)Right now, he's a revered elder statesman, and 90 percent of the coverage about him is will-he-or won't-he enter, with another 5 percent about how well he's doing in the polls.
As soon as he enters the race and begins making position statements, you can be sure his poll numbers will drop. The media and Trump will begin hashing over every comment and every vote of his long career.
At the same time, the now unknown Dem candidates will soon become household names, as well.
So, those of us who love Joe, just prepared for his numbers to drop, the same way Hillary's favorability numbers went from astronomical while she was Sec. of State and thereafter, but began dropping as soon as she announced her candidacy.

(58,785 posts)I want all good voices and all good choices on those debate stages. That includes Inslee, who's doing about as expected at this point, but I hope he will pull ahead. That a person like Gillibrand who doesn't really get liberal, Democratic fealty to the Bill of Rights is mentioned with him is unfortunate, but hopefully time will take care of that.
