Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton is not a 2020 primary candidate.
In fact, she is not a candidate for any office that I know of. She commented negatively on one of the current candidates, who responded with a weird, explosive attack on the former Secretary of State and on the Democratic Party.
So? So, DU's Democratic Primaries forum has temporarily devolved into a forum on that particular personal conflict between a non-candidate and a candidate who is polling around 1%.
In terms of reality regarding the 2020 Primary race, the entire dispute is irrelevant. Hillary is not running, and Tulsi Gabbard is essentially out of the running.
Why are we devoting so much space to two people who are irrelevant to the subject of this forum?
I think I know the answer to my question, but am not going to discuss it any further.

(146,331 posts)However the name came out almost immediately. There's really only one candidate to whom she could have been referring. But, she didn't use the name, you're right.
That, I'm afraid, is beside the point, really.

(34,477 posts)If someone hinted at wrongdoing committed by someone in a group to which I belonged, but I had nothing at all to do with that wrongdoing, I would not be the slightest bit defensive about the hint. Gabbards reaction is not one of an innocent person, IMHO.

(146,331 posts)bit of political scheming in 2016. She's concerned that a similar bit of scheming is in the works for 2020. She appears to believe that Tulsi Gabbard is 2020's Jill Stein, and she may have information that I don't have access to.
Gabbard's reaction, however, was quite telling. It sounded like her cover was blown and she's pissed about that. It sounded exactly like that to me.
Fortunately, Gabbard is about to become completely irrelevant to the 2020 primary race, and I don't think she has enough of a following to follow in Jill Stein's footsteps.
Nope. Hillary blew the whistle on something and a lot of people are not happy with that at all. It's surprising to see.

(28,845 posts)Interesting, crazy talk.
Because Hillary manipulated Gabbard like a pro.
That Gabbard is totally outed.
Because Hillary was destroyed by Russianassets.
That its still part of the daily reality show
That theres more folks watching Primary threads.
Some of like us to see all stars anytime even after they are in the hall of fame
And because Hillary did it. Anything she does is notable.

All of that is pretty revealing.
Additionally Russia Today is promoting Tuslis rant.

(58,785 posts)I usually respect your judgement, MM, but you're missing the point on this. This is NOT two women making an unfortunate scene at what should be a polite gathering, and we're not guests who should have the good sense to ignore their unseemly behaviors and focus instead on what we came together for.
Hillary didn't "comment," she warned. She told us something we really need to know. Russia is busy developing a third-party candidacy to peel away enough of the vote to help the Republicans and the powers they serve get control of our government. And that the person they're developing, "grooming," for that purpose is currently a Democratic party candidate is also something we need to know.

(146,331 posts)The dynamics of the 2020 race, though, are different from 2016, in many ways. I don't see any current candidates who I think have the potential to be spoilers in the way Jill Stein was in 2016. There's a very different feel to the current political realities, it seems to me.
Now, that doesn't mean that certain people will not try to duplicate that element of the 2016 election. It's just that I don't think that will be a successful thing.
Really, we don't even know whether we'll be facing Donald Trump at this point. He appears to be trying as hard as he can to get impeached.
I just don't see Tulsi Gabbard as someone who will really play into the outcome.
Clearly, though, Hillary Clinton felt the need to make her warning public, so perhaps there are goings-on of which I'm not aware.

(58,785 posts)of splintering away support. We rather expect to win by larger numbers this time, but the battle for power will still be dangerously close. We really need the senate, or at least a tie or almost, not just the presidency.
And if we lose Trump, let's really hope he takes Pence down with him. Most of the right would turn out for a stray dog against us, much less Pence, and those unhappy enough with Trump to consider not voting would be very glad to have him.
I've always seen Gabbard as an untrustworthy and possibly self-destructive loose cannon and had no doubts for this development to blast. Honorable people do not help Russia war on the United States, not even by merely passively accepting that Russia regards them as useful weapons and the help against other candidates that Russia's support brings them. It's betrayal.
Sanders will no doubt also be in to the end. In spite of serious drops in registered voter support, his grassroots fund raising is still somehow pulling in more money than everyone else's. If that kind of dynamic continued, he could drop to 1% and still afford to go third party if he wished.

(146,331 posts)Some of the same forces are in play for 2020 as were in 2016. On the plus side, we have some experience now with Trump and what having him in the White House really means. I think that's our ace in the hole, really. We'll see, I suppose, and I finally realize that things outside of my control play a larger role than I once thought. I mean, who would have thought someone like Trump could become President?

(58,785 posts)helped elect Republicans and defeated Democrats. He did it in VT when he ran a hopeless campaign for governor, helping the Republican challenger defeat the Democratic incumbent.
Both times the danger of throwing the election to anti-progressive conservatives was obvious and both times he was completely unrepentant when it happened. To this day he says at almost every appearance in various ways that he sees no meaningful difference between the parties. Tweedledum and Tweedledee as he once put it.
Yes, that's bizarre, and his complete blindness or indifference to our liberal principles shocking, but nothing has ever changed his mind about that.
As for third-party down the road, I also haven't heard him say anything other than passionately declare that he will win the Democratic primary. Because, you know, we're no better than Republicans and the nation needs him. One thing I am sure of, somehow large amounts of money keep flowing in and the only way he'll be leaving the national scene will be if he's carried out.
