Sen. Klobuchar Used My Line (Posted on DU) in the debate

Before the 2018 election results were announced, I posted my prediction here on DU that a progressive Democratic blue wave would hit, but I specifically.changed wave to wall and said Trump would pay for that wall.

Here is my original post from 2018:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=11373957

I also repeated this framing on Sirius XM Progress radio on a call-in.

Then Senator Amy Klobuchar adopted my line and on September 21 there were 61 likes for it here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287289211

Sen. Klobuchar repeated that line in last night's debate, which caught my attention.

I just want to say that beautiful blue walls are not created by the bipartisan working across the aisle that is one of Senator Klobuchar's signature characteristics.
They are created by hard campaigning for Dems and against Republicans.

I don't mind anyone using this phrase in general, but i do want to state my objection to it being repurposed to apply to the bipartisan efforts Klobuchar favors. The 2018 elections had a big beautiful blue wall that emphatically rejected Trump and Republicans. It wasn't a handshake across the aisle Amy!

The least Klobuchar could do is give a shout out to getting good ideas from DU!! (Or DUers on Progress radio).

On edit: some excellent research below showing some others thought of the phrase before too. I salute them. I still object to repurposing the line to refer to bipartisan efforts!

From 2017:

I'd guess if Klobuchar heard that line before, instead of thinking of it herself (which is just as possible as anyone else coming up with it), it was most likely a result of what was said at the Texas Democratic Women convention in early 2017. I'd be surprised if that line hadn't been copied into a lot of emails and social media posts circulated by Democratic women then.

But I take your point that others have thought of them. They deserve credit! I will edit my post.

You make a sound analysis about the Dem women listserv (which i would not have received not being a woman, but Klobuchar might have)

Even if i had been the first to coin it, the point in putting it out there is the hope that it will be of use....

That said, the main point is the apparent bipartisan repurposing. I think one can work across the aisle with legislation, but elections are not bipartisan affairs, so there seems to be a distinction to be made here in how the phrase is used -the general context. If it weren't for that angle I wouldn't say a thing about her using it.

Haven't posted much except for this big story about the coverup of an exxon valdez-sized gas spill in ND, during DAPL no less. Here are the direct links rather than the DU posts:

On August 19, 2019, the investigative website desmogblog asked whether it was 11,000,000 gallons, not 10 gallons as officially listed by the state for over four years.
https://www.desmogblog.com/2019/08/19/north-dakota-regulators-oil-gas-spill-exxon-valdez

A second story confirms that a document states it was the company's estimate of 11,000,000 gallons, not a contractor's estimate:

https://www.desmogblog.com/2019/10/01/whistle-blower-lehto-oneok-north-dakota-gas-plants-spill

11,000,000 gallons means bigger than the Exxon Valdez

Democrats will never have a sustainable 60+ seat majority in the senate.

I have lived for years in one of the reddest states. Working class people there were dead set against Hillary Clinton but found Bernie Sanders to be an interesting candidate they could support. These folks should be blue all along, but something happened to really sour them toward establishment or centrist Dems. Moving to center is not a guaranteed way to get the most votes. I could organize for any "insurgent" Dem like Sanders, Yang, Tulsi but it was the worst kind of uphill battle organizing for centrist dems.

Just my oft repeated experience there

We dreamed about child labor laws, a five day work week with some safety rules.
We dreamed about Nixon's resignation and an end to the Vietnam War.

We will keep fighting to make our dreams come true. Right now I am dreaming of medical care w/o bankruptcy.

Please turn 180 and fight the fascists.

Return to representating the base is necessary.
