Related: About this forumMf45 re-election strategy is to "Benghazi" Joe Biden.

Like Benghazi, there was nothing really there that was a direct result of Hillary Clinton state department of being responsible for the incident while it was the department of defense that Dropped the ball. Now they are using the same negative strategy with this Ukraine made up nothing story. They are trying to plant in peoples minds who only minimally pay attention to politics that there is something and there is really nothing but a conspiracy theory made up by mf45 supporter.
Tuesday, I flew back from Europe with an Italian national and a woman from Pennsylvania. Near the end of the 8 hour flight she mentioned she didnt like Hillary because of Benghazi. I guess the look on my face gave away my astonishment at her comment, she quickly said she didnt want to talk politics.
But now we know even though the so-called Ukraine scandal is a big nothing burger a larger portion of the voting population will have the Ukraine negative story neurally implanted in their brains. Now we know and we must constantly repute this bs talking point every time we encounter someone.

(4,450 posts)now "not quite sure they trust Biden" or "apprehensive" about him. Sure, it's made Trump look even more like the stark raving a-hole he is but everyone has known for a long time who Trump is. They either like it or don't.

(12,712 posts)It is a good thing that they don't know that we all got together and decided that Biden would be a decoy that we knew that Trump would attack and spend a lot of time and resources on so that our main candidate could then get the nomination and proceed from there.
Two can play that game.
It is really going to be a laugh when Trump finds that out.
Score!!!!

(41,832 posts)Which I don't really get. I just heard one repeat that Hunter had no experience blah blah blah...
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Hunter on the Board? You don't have to know the gas business to be on the board if you are half way intelligent. Many Boards get people outside the field of the business.
It's not like Hunter is a dummy. He went to Georgetown and then got his law degree at Yale. He had business experience.
Also I read that he didn't get 50,000 every month, just some months.

(58,785 posts)They could care less about Hunter himself. Or that there's an enormous difference between doing something that "doesn't look good" and actual corruption.
In that, they're very like those who adopt and push RW lies here, instead of being happily proud that our Democratic frontrunners are honest.

(13,390 posts)We saw it work in '04 and '16. It is most effective there is a grain of truth to keep people talking and strenuously refuting over and over again. It is not dismissed by skeptics as long as the conversation continues. We need to keep in mind that it is skeptics and cynics who don't vote because they don't think it is a useful exercise. "The lesser of two evils," "they're all crooked in some way" "they never do anything to make a difference to me" and other cynical claims pick up speed with exactly this kind of controversy.
The voters who will defend this are the choir. The voters who will listen are already listening and ready to be persuaded. The voters who are cynical to begin with will tune out because "they're all crooked" and they don't want to worry or get frustrated over things they can't change.
GOTV is going to determine who wins this election and we can't afford a candidate whose associations with scandal discourage voters. Thankfully, we have candidates who do not have to offering competing explanations refutations and defenses in the context of the same scandal. The worst part is the most devoted supporters on either side see their candidate as a victim of the other. Whataboutism and bothsidesism is effective when you have competing groups making the same argument about the other and their own candidate.
