"2020 Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders underwent a heart procedure after suffering chest discomfort during a campaign event in Las Vegas, a top campaign aide confirmed Wednesday.
The procedure to have two stents inserted came after he felt discomfort during a Tuesday evening rally in Las Vegas," senior campaign adviser Jeff Weaver said.
Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted. Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits, Weaver said. "He will be resting up over the next few days. We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates.
The Vermont senator, 78, is among the top contenders vying for the Democratic nomination, trailing former vice president Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren in the polls."
