(145,554 posts)Recent polling have reinforce my hope that sanders will fail to get 300 national convention delegates necessary to put his name into nomination at the National Convention due to the 15% rule. I was a delegate to the Philadelphia convention and saw how the process works. One key item is that under the rules, a candidate cannot be put into nomination without 300 delegates. https://democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/2020-Call-for-Convention-WITH-Attachments-2.26.19.pdf
States in the following manner:
a. Requests to nominate a presidential candidate shall be in writing and shall have affixed thereto the written approval of the proposed nominee and the name of the individuals who shall be recognized to make the nominating and seconding speeches on behalf of a presidential candidate and shall be delivered to the Convention Secretary at a location as specified by the Secretary no later than 6:00 p.m. of the day preceding the day designated for the commencement of presidential nominations.
b. Each such request must be accompanied by a petition indicating support for the proposed nominee signed by delegates representing not less than 300 or more than 600 delegate votes, not more than 50 of which may come from one (1) delegation. A delegate may not sign more than one (1) nominating petition for president and for vice president. Pledged and automatic delegates may sign the petition.
If sanders is frozen out of getting delegates in enough states due to the 15% rule and remaining non-Biden delegates are split among several candidates, there is a chance that sanders may not reach 300 threshold Recent polling give me more hope that this is possible.
We will see what happens but my wish is just as possible as your wish.

Trump pisses lots of people off too, doesn't mean he's doing anything right.

(45,120 posts)I don't see "he's pissing people off, he must be doing something right" in the OP. There's a lot of he needs to drop out or he's gonna cause Trump to win! or he's not a Dem! He went on Fox... bad!! Until someone else goes on Fox... good. Anything posted here about him really triggers people who don't like him. That's hilarious and that's a reflection on them, not him.

(3,256 posts)No one is "scared" of BS
What people are scared about is that his divisive rhetoric and victim complex keeps his supporters from voting for the eventual nominee. That part has a track record and that is the horror story. BS will never win the nomination. Everyone knows it.

(10,721 posts)Those with the most name recognition are especially going to benefit from a large field. Once the field gets considerably smaller (which will coincide with more people paying attention), we're going to see some significant shifts. Right now, a lot of people can't distinguish between all the various candidates. Well, it's not so much that they can't. It's that they aren't going to bother, not when we're still more than 5 months away from Iowa.
Sanders has never stood a chance anyway, unless you think he's going to magically do much, much better among persons of color than he did in 2016. Nobody wins the Democratic Party nomination while getting trounced among POC. No way, no how. In 2016, the race was over after Super Tuesday. In 2020, I think Sanders will essentially be done after New Hampshire. In 2016, he was *the* alternative to the front-runner, a front-runner who was polarizing and under relentless attack for 25 years. And the field being so small enabled him to develop name recognition quickly. 2016 was tailor-made for Sanders. That's not the case this time around.

(37,748 posts)Yet... it does not follow. Predicating joy on a logical fallacy is (again), by definition, irrational.
And let's be honest with ourselves (if with no one else), BS is not doing well. At all. He is flailing in the shallow end of the pool, has lost momentum, his campaign never had the strategic initiative, his own polling has him consistently and barely tied for a far-distant second place, and he has little hope of winning over the Democrat's two largest voter bases.
But I get it. Telling yourself "The fact that Bernie is doing well" is little different than the hope Buffalo fans had at half-time during Super Bowl XXVII.

(3,649 posts)Bernie is in 2nd behind a popular VP, and his numbers have ticked up since the last debate. "Flailing", "losing momentum", etc etc is just wishful thinking on the part of people who, for whatever reason, don't want to see Bernie win the nomination. Well too bad for them, he has a real shot at getting it.

(37,748 posts)You'll allow us objective evidence indicating a surge above and beyond Biden's numbers, and a specific course to maintain that new-found first-place felling, yes?
Or are we simply reading another feel-good bumper-sticker, lacking any measure at all other than "I believe I can fly"?

(1,810 posts)His campaign has been doing so poorly that they decided to fundamentally change it after the last debate(this is public information).
They are comparing democrats to terrorists(this is a fact).
They are comparing democrats to Trump(this is a fact and is only one step away from them calling democrats terrorists).
He is following Trumps lead and trashing the media because they don't simply offer outright praise for him(again, a fact).
He has lost almost all of his support from 16 and can't gain any traction this time around. He is the biggest monied candidate on our side and can't buy any movement in the polls. He tried using his platform. Nothing. He has tried buying it. Nothing. He has created his own media outlet like Trump. Nothing.
All facts. Nothing taken out of context.
He is doing really really well.
