Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBeto
Beto really needs to drop out and run for the senate in Texas. He'd have an excellent flip the sand and help the Dems flip the four open house seats. It'd the right thing for him to do.

Daily Kos (today)
"The poll also projects a wide-open Democratic primary race for the Senate seat held by longtime incumbent John Cornyn. At 19%, "someone else" is leading the field, a blow to former Army helicopter pilot MJ Hegar, who's been campaigning for most of the year.
That "someone else" is leading the entire field is an oddity, but reflects the complexity of the primary race and the conundrum felt by many Democrats.
Hegar was the choice of 10% of those polled, followed by state Sen. Royce West at 8%, former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell at 7% and Houston City Council member Amanda Edwards at 5%. A whopping 51% of respondents were unsure.
Still plenty of time for Texas Democrats to find their nominee

I'm guessing that Beto would lead the field, by far, if he were running and included in the poll I cited.
If the Dems fail to win the 2020 elections
Nothing will be done about
climate change
health care
civil rights
gun control
two tiered autocratic society when the tax code isn't turned upside down
the politicalization of the FBI, intelligence agencies (the justice dept is already politicized)
This is a Last Chance election for the U.S.A. and I don't give a fly'n fck about ANY politicians political career.

(76 posts)MJ Hegar would be much higher in the polls if Democrats would stop hurting her campaign with the non-stop whining that O'Rourke has chosen not to fun for Senate. No amount of whining will make him run for Senate and at this point, those who continue to whine are going to ensure those running will lose.
Whether you like it or not, Mr. O'Rourke is far too talented and has too much to offer to be limited to a state wide race. He is exactly where he belongs. With how strong he is proving himself to be I'd much prefer seeing him help beat Mitch McConnell and Cornyn by being the nominee and helping dozens of candidates on ballots all across the country down those tickets.

He already lost one senate race in Texas, why try again? Leave that to the candidate already in the race instead of splitting the vote. That's what someone who wants the best for the party would do.

(9,696 posts)It's wishful thinking that he would turn another senate seat when he couldn't turn the first one. He'd be a fool to try that again. However, he's more popular than Biden in Texas, so could easily be the VP nominee.

We gained several house seats because of Beto's Senate run (my own district with Lizzie Fletcher to name just 1)

(185 posts)He could deliver us the Presidency by taking Texas electoral votes. And he's proven to have downballot coattails in 2018--as the presidential nominee, he would have coattails for all of the Senate races. The Texas poll that has him thumping Trump had a breakout with Independents and he was doing great with Independents. All solid Democratic voters will vote for the Democratic nominee. We need a nominee that also inspires independents and infrequent/non-voters--and Beto's straight talk appeals to these voters.
Beto has the potential to politically wipe-out the Republican party.

Texas has excellent candidates for Senate. My preference is MJ Hegar. If you truly care about Texas Senate and aren't just concern trolling, check them out and donate to one of them. (4,558 posts)I don't think some realize just how strong the sentiment of "nationalism" runs in Texas.
Put a "Texan" against a "New Yorker" and there will be several % points right off the top. Ridiculous, but true. There IS a small percentage of Texans who would come out to vote for Beto just on that ridiculous metric. He only needs 2% better than he did against Cruz, and Cruz beat Trump during the primaries 43.76% to 26.75%.. 17% Cruz beat out Trump vs less than 2% vs Beto.
It's basic election math:
Democratic party base in Texas + Voters who will vote just because he's Texan + voters being turned out by MJ Hegar's running = Texas EC votes going to us.

(112,195 posts)Beto knows what he is doing and he doesn't need your advice. Republicans are scared of Beto which is why they have done everything possible to hurt his candidacy.
Anything could happen over the next 5-6 months, particularly when two of the lead candidates are men that are in their upper 70s. Beto's response to this tragedy shows his effectiveness as a leader and this could be the beginning of his rise in the polls.

Or tell Buttigieg to drop out and run for Governor in Indiana? Or tell Warren or Sanders to stay in the Senate or their seats will go to Republicans?
