Beto

Beto really needs to drop out and run for the senate in Texas. He'd have an excellent flip the sand and help the Dems flip the four open house seats. It'd the right thing for him to do.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

We need a strong candidate who can win and we don't have one now.

Daily Kos (today)

"“The poll also projects a wide-open Democratic primary race for the Senate seat held by longtime incumbent John Cornyn. At 19%, "someone else" is leading the field, a blow to former Army helicopter pilot MJ Hegar, who's been campaigning for most of the year.

That "someone else" is leading the entire field is an oddity, but reflects the complexity of the primary race and the conundrum felt by many Democrats.

Hegar was the choice of 10% of those polled, followed by state Sen. Royce West at 8%, former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell at 7% and Houston City Council member Amanda Edwards at 5%. A whopping 51% of respondents were unsure.
Still plenty of time for Texas Democrats to find their nominee …”

MJ Hegar would be much higher in the polls if Democrats would stop hurting her campaign with the non-stop whining that O'Rourke has chosen not to fun for Senate. No amount of whining will make him run for Senate and at this point, those who continue to whine are going to ensure those running will lose.

Whether you like it or not, Mr. O'Rourke is far too talented and has too much to offer to be limited to a state wide race. He is exactly where he belongs. With how strong he is proving himself to be I'd much prefer seeing him help beat Mitch McConnell and Cornyn by being the nominee and helping dozens of candidates on ballots all across the country down those tickets.

He could deliver us the Presidency by taking Texas electoral votes. And he's proven to have downballot coattails in 2018--as the presidential nominee, he would have coattails for all of the Senate races. The Texas poll that has him thumping Trump had a breakout with Independents and he was doing great with Independents. All solid Democratic voters will vote for the Democratic nominee. We need a nominee that also inspires independents and infrequent/non-voters--and Beto's straight talk appeals to these voters.

Beto has the potential to politically wipe-out the Republican party.

I don't think some realize just how strong the sentiment of "nationalism" runs in Texas.

Put a "Texan" against a "New Yorker" and there will be several % points right off the top. Ridiculous, but true. There IS a small percentage of Texans who would come out to vote for Beto just on that ridiculous metric. He only needs 2% better than he did against Cruz, and Cruz beat Trump during the primaries 43.76% to 26.75%.. 17% Cruz beat out Trump vs less than 2% vs Beto.

It's basic election math:
Democratic party base in Texas + Voters who will vote just because he's Texan + voters being turned out by MJ Hegar's running = Texas EC votes going to us.

Beto knows what he is doing and he doesn't need your advice. Republicans are scared of Beto which is why they have done everything possible to hurt his candidacy.

Anything could happen over the next 5-6 months, particularly when two of the lead candidates are men that are in their upper 70s. Beto's response to this tragedy shows his effectiveness as a leader and this could be the beginning of his rise in the polls.

Why don't you tell Julian Castro to drop out and run for the Senate in Texas? Or tell Hickenlooper to drop out and run for the Senate in Colorado? Or tell Buttigieg to drop out and run for Governor in Indiana? Or tell Warren or Sanders to stay in the Senate or their seats will go to Republicans?

Enough is enough. Beto is in the race whether you like it or not.

Also, there are qualified candidates running for the Senate in Texas, including MJ Hegar who nearly defeated a sitting Republican Congressman.

Because I want to win the Senate and Beto is our best chance in TX. Hickenlooper and Buttigeig should run for the senate. Warren and Sanders have realistic shots at being the Dem Pres. nominee.

If we don't win the Senate, we won't achieve anything close to the dramatic changes that have to happen in this country.

Aren't we supposed to support Democrats who are running for office over those who aren't? How much you are pushing this makes no logical sense at all. It's counterproductive.

David Sirota tweeted yesterday trying to push O'Rourke to run for Senate. I don't trust that guy one bit and it was really rude of Sirota to post something like that amid a horrible tragedy. You really should stop.

There have been hundreds of political posts since the horrible tragedy. Have you called those posters rude or are you just trying silence someone with a view you oppose?

It's very important not to throw your support behind people who won't be on the ballot. That's just not what good Democrats do.

I'm undecided. I was very disappointed that Sherrod Brown chose not to run and I'd really like to see Inslee in the next debate but that ain't going to happen.

Young Mr. O'Rourke has impressed me a great deal over the last few days. While Trump was off playing golf, O'Rourke rose to the occasion and stepped into the leadership role. I think this will change everything in this race. I'm going to watch him on Chris Cuomo here shortly. If he impresses me I may have made my choice.

I'm undecided until I have an understanding of how each candidate stands on

climate change
the tax code
health care
Sanctioning Russia/foreign interference in policy and elections
Immigration
Voting rights

also will consider electability.

I wish the candidates would forbid it because it looks bad no matter the timing, but right now when the victims haven't even been buried yet it just horrendous and callous.

I agree that it's poor form and it gains nothing for their candidate. My hope is that Beto is ignoring those tweets.

The ones I saw circulating was a staff member for Bernie Sanders (some David something or other I think), a Pete Buttigieg fundraiser or donor with a last name of Olin or Odin or something like that. The last one really disappointed me. It was a family member of Kamala Harris. I think people were saying it was her niece or something. There is a lot of anger and hurt from O'Rourke supporters in Texas, especially those in El Paso. Guess we all know which campaigns won't ever get any Beto caucus goers if he doesn't have enough people at any point.

This is disappointing but not surprising. The calls for him to drop out don't usually bother me but it's hitting a raw nerve for me right now. It would've been nice if people had given it a rest for a week or two.
