Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumKristen Gillibrand on CNN with Anderson Cooper.
I just saw her interview on CNN with Anderson Cooper. He was questioning her about this article Biden wrote in 1981, which was nearly 40 years ago, in which he wrote about women working outside the home. She attacked Biden about it in the debate last night.
She admitted to Anderson that she read the article only a couple of weeks ago.
So basically she, or her team, was trolling through the internet looking for something controversial on Biden. That feels so opportunistic and dirty to me.
She has worked with Biden for years and she knows what kind of man he is.
I also think it is hypocritical. Someone needs to remind Gillibrand of her past positions on gun rights. Is she the only one who is allowed to change one's views?

(47,547 posts)Gillibrand does whatever is good for Gillibrand and will apparently throw anyone under the bus if it serves her. Unfortunately, I don't think her kind of raw no-holds-barred approach is serving her very well, but she insists on doubling down. Perhaps she is getting lousy political advice, but she's turning a lot of people off.

(11,990 posts)especially since this debate was probably her last chance to try to break through. I'm almost surprised she didn't preface the attack with, "I know you're not sexist, but..."
It was a lousy argument, but really, so was Harris'.
Harris at least benefitted from a commanding presence that Gillibrand lacks, and also from being able to present that she felt aggrieved having grown up as a black girl in a segregated neighborhood. Gillibrand didn't have any such angle to work, having grown up a privileged white girl.
In the end, honestly, I think they're both opportunists. But Harris wears it better.

(7,277 posts)It was the shock value of "that little girl was me", that gave Harris a break through. In comparison, Gillibrand had nothing.

(4,516 posts)in times before accepted ideas evolved to what they are today.
Very few of us held the evolved views back then but we have evolved and no longer have to older views.
Some still want to rerun to the past but Biden and I dont.
So you cant do anything but say we held different views in the past.

(2,331 posts)Harris hit points because she seemed genuinely upset about the position he took and she was the first person to take a swing at him.
Gillibrand telegraphed this for a week before the debate. I read an article she was planning on going after him over something he said in the 80s a few days before the debate.
She isn't good at the national thing and needs to go back to the Senate.

(2,331 posts)She wouldn't take his phone call to give his side of the story before she led the charges to call on him to resign.
McCain says if you want a friend in politics get a dog. She is probably one of the most blatant examples of that maxim.
