Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumPlease support the candidate you prefer and tell us why.
Attacking other candidates is poor form, it seems to me.
Please don't diss Democrats.
Thanks,
MineralMan

(85,998 posts)...there's no utopia for what you want in an open and free discussion.
What you want is an anathema to it, actually. One person's notion of an 'attack' is another posters' attempt for clarity or dissent.
And this is meta.

If anyone is running with right-wing garbage that's unsubstantiated or if they're starting thread after thread to repeat the same point of attack, string 'em up.
Otherwise, this is the primary. We need open and frank discussion.

(5,812 posts)I like some better than others, but we MUST remain united in order to get MF45 out of the WH in the 2020 election.

(5,812 posts)While I like Bernie and many of his ideas, IMO, he divides the Dems.
We MUST be united against the Orange Evil.

(17,306 posts)And you said essentially the same thing to all of the candidates before the debate got underway:
"Please don't attack each other. It's poor form. Only state why we should support you."
You wouldn't get cooperation from some of the participants and a good portion of the audience would be dismayed. Same applies on this DISCUSSION forum.

(45,107 posts)If it's their words, their history. their current or past opinion or actions it's not an attack. An attack on a candidate would be posting lies and inuendos. Someone posted this and surprisingly enough it made a lot of sense. It was about Bernie but it applies to all the candidates.
This is why vetting is important. Every... EVERY aspect of a candidate's life is fair game. His (or her) interviews, writings, recordings, votes... successes and failures.
This is also why it's important that primary voters get the opportunity to see the full tax returns from EVERY candidate BEFORE the primary voting begins. Voters have the right to know if there's something in a candidate's background that would be a "showstopper" for his (or her) campaign during the General Election. By that time, it's too fucking late.
We deserve to know the truth.

(18,276 posts)because I like a strong liberal Democrat who is a policy wonk with real plans and who actually knows how to get things done.
But I'm going into the primary season with an open mind, especially concerning five other candidates.

(6,799 posts)There are a few that are way down on my list; however, let it be known that I will 💯percent support our candidate for President. We need discussion during the primaries; total support during the general.

(6,930 posts)And some folks really need to work on their thin skins.
I am not a Bernie fan, but I never see his supporters whining and crying here that he is not treated fairly (or at least not that often). Some of the lesser tier candidates seem very sensitive. Gotta have a thick skin in primaries.

(146,317 posts)It seems to me that the ones who will still be around in 2020 are well identified by now. Once the rest drop out, we will have a clearer picture of who will end up on top.
Negative campaigning during primary season backfires most of the time, I think, at least for Democrats. Republicans are another story - just look at Trump.
