Those on Medicare get Part A which were paid for through their payroll deductions. Part B is usually paid for through Social Security deductions or monthly invoice. Then you have to get some type of Medicare supplemental policy to cover what Part A and Part B doesn't cover. So it looks like folks will get a monthly charge.

Have Medicare for those who need it, and can not afford private insurance,
but let people who want their private insurance through their job, union, etc keep it.

At one time I was in the hospital one week for major abdominal surgery; had a private room.
Did not pay one cent. My job's private insurance paid it all.
..................................

Today my Medicare deductibles for some needed procedures are too expensive and I have to turn them down.

This year my copay for physical therapy was to be $400, and
copay for a sleep study for apnea was to be $425.

I'm on Social Security and can't afford them.

....have excellent coverage.

When she was working, my wife's employer's coverage cost $19.50 per week for both of us, including dental and prescription coverage. Co-pays were about the same as Medicare but some procedure out of pocket was higher. Still, $19.50 per week is $1014 annually for both of us. Our Medicare now is $3,000 + $624 for supplementary coverage with no dental coverage.

It is simple.

Single payer works, and the current US system of monetized health care does not. And no talk about "we cannot do that here" can disguise that fact.

The US healthcare system is designed to maximize profits, not health.

The super high deductibles prove that point.

Many people simply can't afford those so they don't go to the doctors to catch a health problem in its early stages.

Those against it know why they are and it has nothing to do with savings. The savings are best with Medicare for All.

Single-Payer National Health Insurance

Single-payer national health insurance is a nonprofit system in which a single public or quasi-public agency organizes health financing, but delivery of care remains largely in private hands.

Currently, the U.S. health care system is outrageously expensive, yet inadequate. Despite health expenditures of $10,348 per person in 2016, more than twice that of other industrialized nations, the United States performs poorly in comparison on major health indicators such as life expectancy, infant mortality, and chronic disease.

28. Recent actual poll of Democrats shows other options are way ahead
Sun Jul 28, 2019, 09:12 PM
Jul 2019

Poll of the week: A new Marist College poll finds that 90% of Democrats believe it is a good idea to have a health care system in which there are private insurers and a government option (i.e. public option).
Meanwhile, a smaller 64% of Democrats say it's a good idea to have "Medicare for All" (i.e. a government-run health care plan that pretty much replaces private insurance).
