(7,027 posts)I hope Joe and Kamala can join together. I am hoping that all the candidates let this primary happen and not attack each other. I mean, what's the point of that?
I think Biden/Harris gets us a 10 point win.

(7,027 posts)Then they, perhaps, regret it and try to reconcile within the party.
It's like the Young and the Hungry in our party who are given to attacking veteran Democrats over the real enemy. I never did that. When I figured out I was a Democrat a long time ago, I stuck to my guns and pointed them forward, not to the side, not behind.
When I did unfairly criticize one of our own, I regretted it, and chalked it up to maturing even though being middle-aged.
You can see the difference in demeanor between the well-traveled and the eager. And I imagine it would be hard for a politician to maintain that spontaneous passion when so many would beat you down because of your talent. Then you get to doubt yourself or rein yourself in too much.
We have to remember that most of our representatives are those that got up every day and busted their asses for a better country for everyone.
But I get very frustrated by those that would join our ranks only to shoot sideways in order to get to the front.
The only thing that gives me hope right now is solidarity. The opposition knows this, and that is why they try to undermine it in the media and in policy. We, as Democrats, shouldn't be aiding that effort. Which is why Nancy Pelosi is so valuable to our collective efforts, balancing correction with encouragement to our newest representatives.
I am amazed at the trumpistas losing their shit over AOC and Joe Biden, calling her stupid and him creepy, without any sense of how ridiculous it makes them.
I mean we find people like Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, inspirational.
They find trump inspirational.
Okay, I'm rambling. Gotta make my youngest an omelet. Cheers.

(86,005 posts)...I like to remind folks that most people bring myriad interests and concerns into the political arena from many diverse and disparate regions of the country. It's a bit quixotic to expect people to shove all of that down in favor of someone else's notion of unity.
Let's not be naive about where some calls for unity are drawing their own lines of division. They're mostly partisan, on their face (normal in an election). No one person is going to be able to speak for the entire Democratic electorate, so 'unity' is really about where one closes their own circle.
Elections are the time to bring all of those differences and disagreements out into the open and challenge candidates to recognize and represent our issues and initiatives. We're not going to generate interest in voting Democratic by posturing as if we can't bear debate or dissent. That's a recipe for a static electorate.
We need dynamism and energy which comes from people demanding change. That's how our party grows, how we expand our base of voters: by remaining open and responsive to those looking to our party to represent them. I understand the fears of divisions, but the solution isn't to close ranks and act as if our party can't bear demands for change for fear of losing in November, as some suggest.
One thing is certain, if dissenters can't find an ear in our party, they'll look elsewhere. That's something too many calling for 'unity' can't seem to wrap their advocacy around. We need to give them an ear, and draw these potential voters in. Unity is a recognition of all voices in our party, including a recognition of even those Democratic candidates (and their followers) we may not be inclined to support outright.
Remember, progressives and others pressing our party for changes represent people who may be new to the process or new to considering the Democratic party. It's more important to draw those potential voters in than protecting some political turf in our Democratic primary.
Let's not become shortsighted or timid because of the challenges in November. A static party isn't going to generate the interest we need in the general election. We should embrace the dynamism of these younger, ambitious candidates and expand our party, expand our voter rolls.

Also, IMO, it sets Kamala as VP in a Biden Admin to then become POTUS.
