Detroit mayor endorses Biden (by The Hill)

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan (D) is endorsing former Vice President Joe Biden in the 2020 Democratic primary, The Associated Press reports.

“I’m going to do whatever he asks me to do," Duggan told the outlet. The mayor said Biden was a "great friend of Detroit" as vice president and visited "multiple times." “He cares deeply about the city and auto industry and auto workers. Joe Biden has a whole career of watching out for the working class in this country," Duggan told the AP.

Duggan told the outlet he will spend Wednesday with Biden in Detroit, where Biden is among the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates expected to address the NAACP national convention. Twenty of the White House hopefuls will also take part in two debates next week in the city.

Biden campaigned for Duggan in 2017 during the city's primary election. He recorded a robocall urging voters to reelect Duggan. Duggan endorsed former Secretary Hillary Clinton in 2016. Michigan was narrowly won by Trump in 2016 and will be a key state for the Democratic candidate to win in 2020.

pay any attention to the negative spin on Biden!

great discussion on Nicole Wallace today she asked the Democratic pundits on her show why it is that they dis Biden all the time but when she talks to people she knows, man on the street, they all love and want Biden to be the nominee.

Sort of nailed it for me. Watch TV and Biden is a loser (according to dems!) but my friends love and want him
.

Glad to see he's doing so well.

Thank You!

This drives me crazy when they are coy about who their candidate is. Hope pundits don't influence voters.
It's about time to have actual biden supporters to go on these shows more often.

appreciated within the party. I remember the mayor of Los Angeles speaking of him in these terms. Biden was helpful and accessible. Very well liked. Those who are trying to diminish Biden’s work as VP to a popular Democratic President are only fooling themselves.

Never take anything for granted. Lack of Detroit votes is how trump won Michigan last time. We Dems here in Michigan are not going to let that happen in 2020. (We did have a Blue Wave here in 2018.)
